As far as it's function in the game goes, it's this. A conversation piece.
An 'alien' artifact station in a strange empty system that also serves as a gate network hub- so it's a bit of a mystery, a bit of a tourist destination, and a ready to go 'hook' for modders to expand from as well.. of sorts.
