Was doing my first CSC superfreighter escort mission. The freighter jumped in and I escorted it all the way to the CSC without seeing a single attacker.

Upon arriving at the CSC, the escort cruisers and the CSC itself promptly blew the superfreighter to atoms. Mission failed.

There were no hostiles present and no weapon fire whatsoever prior to the CSC going berserk. It just opened fire as the superfreighter approached. I think I might have seen some kind of billboard decrying it as a pirate? I was not attacked in any case, just the freighter.

Did a message say the freighter is on a suicide run? sometimes the freighter tries to blow up on the csc, probably under pirate control.

Did the CSC explitly say 'mission failed' upon docking?
Chances are that it said it was a success, and you just assumed failure because of it dying. There is a small chance (3%?) that the freighter is actually on a suicide run and being used as a bomb, at which point your object changes to 'kill the freighter'.

In that case, (suicide freighter) you'll fail the mission if the freigtor blows itself up on the CSC.

I've never failed a suicide run. The CSC allways kills it easily for me.

In any case it's a really unfair mission. There's no way, without something like the multiple TEVs of a CSC to take down a suicide freighter in the time it turns hostile.

Did the Scarab get buffed then? Because it's a pretty easy ship for the Vikings to kill, if they get lucky.

And there's always EMP, if you can find one.

scarabs do seem to be able to take more of a beating now. i think that was changed a while ago when you had to do superfreighter missions for the military bases and they kept dying.

Yes, I always had to spam Gems of Contrition (yup. G.O.D Mod to the rescue!) in some versions....

Not as bad as escort convoy missions....eurgh. THose took GoC spammage to a level I never want to repeat...

So how much damage does an exploding scarab do? And is it the same explosion as a normal one?

Just had this mission tonight on RC6. Failed the mission because a wreck was blocking the CSC's Tev-9's. I noticed something was different because it popped out of the opposite stargate and didn't have any attackers. I think it'd be an interesting mission if the freighter was attacked as normal, as that'd give you a shot to shoot it down since it would probably already be damaged.

Actually, that might balance the mission a bit. If you have enough firepower to escort the suicide freighter to the CSC with little/no damage, you could probably shoot it down. If your ship is fairly weak, then a heavily damaged freighter would be fair game when it's close to the CSC.

And it wouldn't be a dead giveaway; I just shoot the thing preemptively to soften it up if It's withing 100ls of the CSC and no enemies have come.
