So, the first Point Juno defense mission seems to still run, even if you don't have the rank to gain access to the bridge.

I have a game where there were no military CSC's (all were med ships, other than Terra and Antarctica) and I then couldn't get the rank to access the Point Juno missions. I still hung around Point Juno, and after a couple minutes, get the 'point juno is under attack!' message. Defeat the enemies, and get a 'Mission Accomplished!' (after destroying a Chasm leading the Sandstorm wave) But I still can't get onto the bridge or access later missions. This is frustrating. Can there be some kind of check, if the player kills X (I say 40% or greater of the first wave) Point Juno attackers, then they can get a fleet badge and get into the missions? Or else, not have the 'Mission Accomplished' note come up when the mission is truly not accomplished.

Thanks for reading. I may have a save game that can repro.

I had something similar happen to me once. The RNG never spawned a military ship before the Point Juno mission so I couldn't get onto the bridge. The Ares ships attacked and the Point Juno kept giving me orders like I was on the mission, but I could never get in.

While that is very highly annoying, I believe it is intended. You aren't supposed to be able to do everything in every game. I've had games where the first Korolov station was the Charon station. Some games there's a BM station in almost every system. It force the player to replay the game to try everything.

I do agree that it is very annoying though.

I agree, Prophet, that not all paths should be accessible every game. Indeed, I think that's a key core to Transcendence and should not be significantly altered.

But I think that, perhaps, the station defense missions for Point Juno could be accessed, and the Admiral just says, "Good Job!" and you get a nice reward, like saving the Korolev in Charon or giving medical supplies to the CSC infirmaries. If not, I would rather the missions didn't run half-way and annoy the living daylights out of me that there were no CSCs and potentially confused new players.

That can happen... though if you run through PJ super-fast, [easy, because the gates are so close together] you can continue on and then backtrack once you do have enough rank.

Wolfy, sometimes when you do that, the Ares will manage to destroy PJ. In this last game, I used a gem of contrition to gate to Elysium to skip PJ. There was only another medic between PJ and Heretic. So there is literally no opportunity to gain rank and become a fleet officer, and no way to access the Point Juno bridge. In this case, either an alternate path to access the missions (but not the Lamplighter and Antarctica) should be provided, or the missions should not run at all, in my opinion.

Thanks

Really? I've never had that happen before. Actually, in pretty much every run where I didn't help them, they drove off the ares anyways! (then again, I probably gave them a bit of a hand by wiping out a number of ships on my exploration of the system...)

I basically always skip PJ, I never had any problem, just gate in, go to the other gate, gate out.
When I think I'm ready I gate in again and sit next to PJ and fry all those Ares ships.
This worked great in 0.99c, not sure for 1.0+

The three times I did the gate in, run to other gate, come back later trick in .99 (I think. It might have been .98), the Ares had wiped out PJ. The one time I tried it in 1.0RC... maybe 3, Point Juno's defenders had been almost wiped out and PJ was at 85% health when I showed back up and drove the Ares off. Hence, I've largely taken to using Elysium to gate around PJ, get sufficient rank or a good enough loadout, and then doubled back. On my current play-through, I have lacked in every area - weapons, shields, armor, credits. (I may go to Heretic with a +50% Mammoth25 because it's the best I've got!) On the plus side, if I can save the Antarctica, maybe the Ares will give me good stuff in Heretic...

It isn't that you can get to Point Juno without sufficient military rank, it's that once you do, there are elements of the game that assume you are doing the missions and display inappropriate messages.
