I did it by hand. It's not that bad for 3 dice with a spread that small, and two similar dice are easy at any size.

There is a formula for it I and I would dig it up if I were going to analyze something like the ballista, but for 3d4 it's not worth it for me.

Has anyone yet found a decent use for the RK15 Omni-partisan?

Um. yes. It's the second best omni in the game for its level in tie with the omni tev and surpassed only by the ares lightning turret

Those two weapons only pay a level penalty for being omni. All others except the ares lightning turret and moskva 11 also pay a firerate penalty, though the omni turbolaser pays a smaller one than all the others. The moskva 11 pays a rather extreme range penalty instead.

So if you use omnis the one you want in the early game is the RK-15 as soon as you can get your hands on one, followed by a tev-9 as soon as you're no longer seeing dwarg, and an ares lightning turret ASAP. For Heretic you're stuck grabbing an im90 and getting stupidly close to your targets so it'll multi-hit.

Interesting. I never really considered using it previously due to the projectile speed...might give it a try now.

I generally prefer weapons with higher rates of fire, such as the Fast-Fire Laser (which during the one time I had it was made even faster by a ROM or weapon upgrade). I also chanced across a Morning Star once. I would probably have used it more if it didn't drain so much reactor energy. :)

The most powerful weapon I've ever used so far on a non-cheat run of the game is the Lancer Cannon, which I like but have trouble shooting stuff with.

Fast-fires are excellent for the sapphire. However I generally save money by making do with the dual-laser on the wolfen until i can find something like a dual turbolaser or similar.

Lancers are best used in conjucntion with a weapon optimizer ROM. You then get a green beam of death. :D

A note on the RK15; it's broken until 1.03 is out.

It's got way too low of a power use.
Which means its all the better now.

Started a new game with the sapphire. Mined Eridani clean and made 32,000.

Omnidirectional laser, monopole, laser collimator, cannon accelerator, nova-50

2nd system: Korolov. changed to Omni turbolaser, PK25 (both bought at weapons dealer)

This may work out in my favor. Hahahahahahaha.............probably not.
For Sale: One slightly used EI500 freighter. Hull damaged, primary weapon defective, shields inoperable. Must be towed to Dry-dock. Make an offer!!

A particularly useful missile for Korolov missions is the KM110 Starburst missile. It's not the BEST missile, and it doesn't track, but with ~105 ls range and a frag patterns that can take out several corsairs at once, it's a great alternative to loosing those KM500s that are better used against the Charon Frigates.

I don't work well with particle and blast weapons -- they feel too slow and usually just don't work well when you're trying to fend off Arco Vaughn.

I go with fast weapons -- Fast-Fire laser / turbolaser and throw on a Collimator if I can find one. Get a NAMI and stock it with Longbows or Starbursts -- both give you an edge if you find enemies with unexpected shielding.

By the time I hit St Kt's I go for the Shuriken every time and change to a MAG launcher.

Late game is often the Makayev or Raissermesser launchers and any type of thermo weapon -- they may be slow, but at this stage my shielding is high enough to make it a good combo.

Currently, I'm running a mixed blast-plate+Duralloy armor load, and running my Wolfen with a NAMI and a collimated dual-turbolaser. Through a miracle, and some titanium barricades, I saved Korolov in Charon, and have nearly 1600 missiles for the NAMI. This is actually a major problem, as it saps agility and cargo space. I'm going to use the non-guided weapons for station busting exclusively for a while, and burn through the XM300s and KM100s.

Anyway. Collimated dual-turbolasers are amazing weapons. Further enhancers make them even better, but even with just the basic collimated weapon, you can burn through Drakes in seconds. And swarm attacks are VERY easy if you see them coming.

I've found the Mining Laser to be better than turbolasers in recent games, as it can take out stations decently and I can shoot well enough hit at least 95% of the time at maximum fire rate. With a collimator 9-35 spike damage is enough to take out any early game enemy in a couple of hits. :D
