This is why I make long range shield-buster + EMp + device damage weapons. In case Wolfy teleports into my savegame and tries to get out.

Steps for dealing with a Wolfy trapped in your game.

1. Don't panic, and try not to look like a phobos
2. Attempt to EMP/device damage it. Do not sit under a planet, as the common Wolfy has a preference for Ares Launchers.
3. Attempt to start a conversation with the Wolfy about balance, modding, TX2, whatever you can think of. Even pelicans are legitimate subject if they work.
4. If the Wolfy gets into the conversation, attempt to divert the Wolfy into an idea PM to George, or into modding/brainstorming something.
5. If this works, slip away while the Wolfy is busy.
6. if this fails, panic, and try to nuke the Wolfy with long range weapons.
7. If all else fails, you will have to race the Wolfy to Heretic, and try to leave the QZ before it can catch you.

(Sorry Wolfy. :P )
There's a problem with step two; I always use armor immune to EMP & device damage (quadro/hexa/octocarbides & light iocrym ;) )
That's why my EMP/Device-damagers are also shield-busters. :D

Plus you can't get carbides in the early game ;)

In early game you can get meteorsteel, or carbide carapace + monopole dust. And that's before you can get a device disruptor too :P

Not like shield busters would hurt my ultimate ship.

Funny, That is why I play with my internet connection plugged out... works very well! But it is oh so lonely :/
I've yet to have Wolfy stuck in my game, but it's best to be prepared. ;)
Perhaps if you plug it out after he enters you get to keep him!! Pure win!! Think of the score! :D

Btw... (and yes, I did not read your edit till now) The surest way to divert Wolfy is to tell him George is on the forums :D

Or tell him there's a new version released. :P works pretty well too

By popular request (3 people on IRC pestering me  ) I will be doing a screencap playthrough showing how to blow up phobos after phobos after phobose after phobos. I'm not entirely sure why they want to see me spend hours blowing up nearly endless ares ships, but hey, they asked for it.

(Well, it will be a complete playthrough, so it will cover more thank just farming phoboses. Such as how to be the ultimate munchkin :D (my style)

Atarlost & I have definite differences regarding playstyle with the wolfen, so my way is not the only way to own everything in your path ;)

[ie, he likes patch arms w/o cargo hold, I like patch spiders w/ cargo hold.

Heh. Phobos farming is a very interesting idea.

Let me guess: Mission farming.

There's a point where killing stuff ceases to be impressive and becomes grinding. Try a speedrun instead. ;)

I was farming them from shipyards, not missions. :)

SOMEONE has lots of time on hand...
I think my best was about 10 Phobos DNs, I tend towards the Ferian Plasma Cannon because of fun times. Oddly enough, I don't really LIKE the IM90, doesn't seem worth the investment to me. Then again I really don't get that many longzhus either...

Anyway, impressive!
My first mod, mostly done, still balance testing.

Yes, I do think I sunk quite some time into doing that.

Can we gain points other than killing? Does trading or gaining ranks add to our points?

 Why nod just hire him, isn't there a communication device mod heh heh. On that note, does killings from our wingmen or autons add to our own points?

In other Roguelikes, the lower your score and the quicker the game, the "better" you are supposed to be. I suppose the thinking is anyone can grind to maximum score, but it takes skill to win quickly while avoiding stuff that can kill you.

But surviving 32 phoboses and churning a profit in the millions out of them /is/ an impressive feat. (Not only because of the patience, but most people will do it wrong and end up with either breaking even, going into the red, or dead)

Phobos is easy to kill with a long range weapon (as in FusionFire or Xenophobe ion lancer). Drift backwards and shoot. It is the same strategy for killing various slow AI-controlled ships with inferior weapon range in Star Control 2. It took some practice when I encountered the Phobos for the first time, but once I got the hang of it, they are not a problem. Phobos kills underequipped, ignorant, or stupid players (if the Phobos is first encountered at the edge of your radar, instead of spawned next to a player trying to blast an Ares shipyard). Profit is to be expected. Phobos drops excellent loot. Either you sell intact loot, or fabricate stuff with the damaged raw materials.

Now if the Ares Plasma Archcannon had range as a howitzer or disintegrator like it should, things can get more interesting.
