They do not scan for ID's at customs; it doesn't actually matter if its illegal or not, from a gameplay/technical persctive.

Until I read the .xml files, I did not know customs did not confiscate the black market ID. Back then, I would jettison it away somewhere before docking. The game should make it clear that identification chips, which have illegal/military tags, are exempt from confiscation (and melting from sealed cargo mishaps). Better yet, make ID equipment or some other sort of passive intrinsic (that is transferable upon ship change).
Download and Play in 1.9 beta 1...
Drake Technologies (Alpha): More hardware for combat in parts 1 and 2!
Star Castle Arcade: Play a classic arcade game adventure, with or without more features (like powerups)!
Playership Drones: Buy or restore exotic ships to command!

Other playable mods from 1.8 and 1.7, waiting to be updated...
Godmode v3 (WIP): Dev/cheat tool compatible with D&O parts 1 or 2.

Yes, I would prefer the use of an abstracted ID because its possible to lose yours, and its kind of annoying to realize you jetisoned your military id with your ore to make room for some weapons you wanted to sell just to have them confiscated.

He might be referring to the point that his black market id isn't working for the black market. This is due to it not being a proper black market id. Taking it from another ship doesn't work. You have to obtain it through the proper channels.
XML file shows level 2 for a black market id and the one he has is the level 1 version.

I'm pretty sure that any Blackmarket ID works, I almost always get my ID's from destroying those grey blackmarket ships that fly around

there is only ONE black market ID, you can get several in a game from the transports and one ( with the risk of arrest ) from the hotel.
the " grey ships " are the T31 Armed Transport & the T55 Armed Transport , usually seen with Zulu escorts.

It doesn't work if the ID is not identified ? if this is true than it's a bug.
IDs (military and black market) used to work even if unidentified. Behaviour of unidentified items has recently changed. I wonder if that introduced this bug.
Can someone else confirm this ? then, when confirmed, make a ticket.

Re: [Not Bug]Black Market ID IS Illegal :
This was SUPPOSED to be in shipyards, but by the time I realized it was not, I could not delete and move it :

it was a random quirk in the game version, the ID does show "Illegal" in most instances, this was just one of those times it did not: I just happen to catch it in a picture for 1.07a's strange collection of things.

I have got the IDs for military and black market in every game because I know I need them to get what I want, I have never had an actual issue with them not working. and in 1.07a I made an ID for my adventure : and that works too, except I originally had it as "Military" but the commonwealth kept trying to take it away ( because I did not have the regular military ID at the time ), so I had to change the ID to just a standard non military item.

Well, it may not be a bug, but I still filed it as an enhancment request for QOL issues due to the "I can't know this without reading the XML" factor.
