Act II question (and III for that matter)

General discussion about anything related to Transcendence.

Will it be possible for us to start the game at act 2/3 directly once it's released (or, at least you can start there once you've finished the previous act)?

Sometimes games are really long even for act 1 alone, so...

I like to add to his question:

Will the player be able to bring stuff from act to act; or will it be like original Doom where the game ends at the end of each act, and the player starts from scratch at each new act?

In addition, can the player travel from act to act freely; or will it be one-way, sort of like going from level 1 to endgame levels in Nethack? (For example, once the player leaves coreward from Heretic, the gate is locked behind him permanently.)
Download and Play in 1.9 beta 1...
Drake Technologies (Alpha): More hardware for combat in parts 1 and 2!
Star Castle Arcade: Play a classic arcade game adventure, with or without more features (like powerups)!
Playership Drones: Buy or restore exotic ships to command!

Other playable mods from 1.8 and 1.7, waiting to be updated...
Godmode v3 (WIP): Dev/cheat tool compatible with D&O parts 1 or 2.

You can bring stuff from act 1 to act 2, but you have the option of switching ships in act 2.

Yes, you can start at the beginning of Part II, even if you've never played Part I (though that's not really recommended).

Given the current technology (i.e., how the engine works now) I was thinking of something like this:

1. Part II is a separate adventure. That means that you can start Part II without playing Part I. In this case, the Heretic gate is probably locked so you can't go backwards to Part I.

2. There is an uber-adventure that includes both Part I and Part II. This means that you can start in Part I and go through the Heretic gate and into Part II. In that case, you get to take everything with you and the Heretic gate stays open so you can go back if you want. [I don't think this screws up the game design, but I'm not sure.]

The advantage of this scheme is that you can start either in Part I or Part II, and there are separate high-scores and records for each of the three different permutations: Part I only, Part II only, and Part I and II combined.

The disadvantage is that you need to decided ahead of time which to do.

I think this is OK for now--certainly for the first few releases of Part II.

For the part II only adventure, would the player still be a human from the QZ? Or just a new pilgrim (possibly from one of the human states outside the QZ?) just starting out?

Good question. I don't think it matters to the story. Perhaps depending the choice can be up to the player (depending on which ship class they start out with).

I think Ares would not be in (after all, they're in quarantine zone...), but I think Iocrym is...

And, if the player close the quarantine the Ares can pass like everyone else...

My question is more about: if the adventure start with high tech and like L10, and the player ship start with L1 (or 5, 6 , 8 whatever) it would be just a little hard...Sapphira X Iocrym Command ship...(Laser X Disintegration Cannon) lol...

The starting ships for Part II will be level 10 or so. It would definitely be too hard otherwise.

Well let's see. It's not inconceivable that there's an entirely different branch of the Ares that got cut off from the main Orthodoxy when the quarantine was imposed. maybe they decided to settle their differences with some of the ex-commonwealth castaways....or maybe the war is still going strong out there. It'll be interesting to see what went on...since the player is the first one out of the QZ, and any humans out there will not have heard of this genocidal maniac from Eridani.
