Open beta is unlikely for 2015, since this year I'm focussing on finishing up all the art assets and the like.
2016 is when the 'fun and playable' parts will get worked on - for the moment, TSB is more of an 'interactive art gallery' than an actual section of the game. There are no missions, only device-type items are implemented for the most part, many stations have placeholder dockscreens, etc.

I just realized your Cerrai colony looks quite similar to EP's Goron lair. Has the former faction evolved into the latter?

They are completely unrelated. George liked the cerrai and may have subconsiously had the goron somewhat inspired by them?

This might just be that it hasn't finished downloading, but I can't manage to make it download. Do I have to delete my collections folder and try redownload it?

Just a post for the beta testers:
Recent updates have introduced a number of larger ship graphics (due to 120 facings), and more are to come - if this is causing crashing, the solution I'm recommending which is NOT officialy supported by george is to set the Large Address Awareness flag. There may be some cases where int (instead of unsigned int) pointers overflow, but overall I've found that it has only increased my stability while developing and testing TSB.
there are many guides on the internet on how to set the Large Address Awareness flag on an executable.
Heres the first google result, but theres many other programs that will do it:

is it possible to add such a setting feature to to the settings file or the .exe itself where the engine can set to adjust for these things manually?

Unfortunately, no, its a bit more complex like that - its a flag in the executable binary file itself that the OS has to read as it creates the new process, it cant be set at run-time.
