I think binary star systems (that is to say a solar system with two stars orbiting around their centre of mass) would be cool to have in transcendence :D.

They might look something like this:

Is it just me, or has that caused loads of planets to bunch together?

That's just because I was editing the system description file in a hurry :D (Plus I didn't know what I could move and would make the game explode if I touched it :D).

Here is one of the systems I was making for the Ranx/Huari war mod that was going to be part of the 'branch mod' collaboration that was at one time going on over at the now defunct Transcendi site. It was for 0.96, 0.96a came out while working on it.
It isn't realy a binary star (you can make a real binary system though). Here, one star orbits another one, then both of them orbit a third.
The planet clump is there on purpose as part of the mod (it was a BM headquarters, they were allies with the somewhat friendly 'Marakan' Huari sovereign, they would help you and trade a little bit if you fought against the Ranx with them).

This was the third and final system for the branch mod collaboration.

That looks (and sounds) extremely cool! :D:D:D

Do you know why it stopped working in 0.96a?

Actually it still works in 0.98 The system tags haven't changed.
It requires that you alter the main .xml, since <StarSystemTopology>...</> doesn't work in mods yet. I think that you can define a system in a mod now; but not the topology to make stargates to it.
The whole collaborative mod effort collapsed is why I sort of abandoned it.
I did play it for a while; because it was fun having Huari wingmen on missions :) .
I made a smaller 'Hura' Light Destroyer for the Marakan sovereign.

:( That's to bad, it looks/sounds really good so far.

However if you still have any of files I would love to have a look at them :)

Here's the star system part for that picture:

You'd have to change <StarSystemDescription...>...</> to <SystemType...>...</> for to work in 0.98. I think that is the only format change there has been, unless maybe some new parameters were added at some point.

I'm fairly sure you could put the SystemType tags for any system you would design into an extension; it's just that you can't alter the topology to make a stargate to/from it right now with an extension.
