Ok maybe I am just blind but I just saw the Transcendence Roadmap page on the new site.

http://neurohack.com/transcendence/design/Roadmap.html

.99 Adventure Extensions sound very cool. How would player ship starting systems work with that? As for the storyline it has never been a big thing for me I tend to play the early systems anyway due to you can't control your equipment as well.

1.0 Improvements to Battle Arena sound nice but the 1.0 will not have any new major storylines or features scares me a bit. Maybe new features can be part of part 2 though to make it different than part one (not just different named stuff) like ship changing and equipment slots.

1.1 eer not sure how I feel about that. Why have it connect to the internet just for a score (no modern game uses score). Error reporting (maybe if you had more detailed error reports) and updates should always be optional (some versions have things I might like better or I have a mod that doesn't work on some versions).

1.5 I always assumed that it would be a separate game. Would it be like the adventure extensions?

I was wondering when someone would notice :)

0.99: Not sure how Adventure Extensions will interact with player ship starting systems (for that matter, I don't know how Adventure Extensions will interact with other kinds of extensions. Can you extend an adventure extension?)

But my goal is clear: Allow people to have a supported and valid way to create their own system topologies (like the work that Periculi has done).

1.0: Don't be scared. Work is constant. I can only work on features at a certain rate. The 1.0 release is just a (more or less) arbitrary point along a constant workstream. Major new features will definitely show up for part 2.

1.1: I will never require an internet connection to play the game. And I will always provide a way to never connect to the internet (and upgrades will always be optional). But I'm trying to do two things:

a) Connect the game to the community. I do like the idea of seeing other people's tombstones ("killed by an out of control auton") and I can imagine all sorts of other game data that can be uploaded (maybe ghost levels?)

b) It would help me immensely to get aggregated data on how people play the game. Does the early part of the game need to be easier? Which parts? What enemy kills the most people? How much money (on average) do people have by St. Katharine's?

1.5: Yes, I think part 2 will use the adventure extensions. You will be able to start in Starton Eridani with a Sapphire and go all the way to the Galactic Core. You will also be able to start after Heretic if all you want to do is play part 2. Yes, I realize that this will be challenging from a game-balance perspective.

hmm I didn't think of the getting data on the playstyles of people. Like after you die you can send a play by play to you (any ideas how to handle mods in that case though or would it only be an option for the vanilla game?). That info would be very interesting plus could point out things that people do normally that you didn't expect.

Good things on the horizon!

George do you foresee changing the structure of the Node tag? If it stays the same it will be very easy to 'upgrade' existing topo mods!

I hope I didn't imply that! Actually I think the whole storyline will take years to complete (just because it takes so long to do all the content)

Yes, I currently envision keeping the Node tag the same. There may be some minor changes, but it should be easy to upgrade existing topo mods.

You know, we could be helping with content a little more. :)
