It would be cool if you could buy a new ship in-game if you had the money.

And with the ability to buy a ship would come (hopefully) the ability to *steal* a ship, ie one time out of 1000, a ship you blow up can be repaired and flown.

Yes it would. :) Have you seen the Road Map for Transcendence development?

Wolfy, if you go back down in the forum a few months before you joined you will see that some modders including myself made various attempts at switching playerhships in-game- in direct conflict with assurances from George that it just isn't possible in any way at this time.

If you go back a few months before I came onto the mod scene, you will see that some modders tried at that time to get a way to switch playerships in-game- in direct conflict with assurances from George that it just isn't possible in any way at this time.

I don't think you can even switch the playership graphic!

In fact, if you dig deep enough you will find that switching playerships in-game is one of the most desired features ever, and attempts have been made by lots of modders to get a work around.

That is why I decided that if I couldn't switch the playership, I could darn well rebuild it from the inside out- and thus you will find that the notions of devices that control what type and how many other devices can install into them are so appealing. This equipment overhaul is currently in the works, so even though you can't switch a ship to another ship you will soon be able to get more ship building options and effects going on. The slot system will be specialized, and rather than # total slots, devices themselves will offer their own defined upgrade path and components to chose from.

As for Escape Pods, try buying insurance...:P
