Haven't actually tested in RC8, but there's nothing in the code to make me suspect anything has changed since I last hit these:
(1) If you talk with the folks in the Antarctica, then there is no conversation option between "Sent to kill" and "Completely clueless". Given that "Completely clueless" gets you a bemused response, surely there should be something indicating that yes you have been paying attention, but no you haven't gotten the mission yet.
(2) If you fight on behalf of the Antarctica, but fail to save it, then you are still eligible for the lamplighter. Surely one of the Aquilas would report back what happened?
