I'm using Eta Ceti here as an example because this is the furthest I've gotten with any level of skill - I've gotten further, but blew up.
Anyway, I'd mined for some cash to spend on a shield once I'd got there- a Taikon-10 - and bought some ion capacitors for my katana. And decided to try farming some Ventari.
A single destroyer promptly blew me to kingdom come. In about 4 seconds.
With that in mind, what's a good loadout for Eta Ceti?

Hmmm.
IIRC, when I get to about Eta Ceti or Point Juno I have usually just upgrade to armor at least as good as octocarbide, shields at least as good as plasma or mammoth 100mw if not better, and have guns that do at least thermo damage (if not better). IMO at Eta Ceti if you don't have 300 HP armor with immunity to particle and below, shields with ether hp above 800 or with a regen rate above 10hp/sec and weapons that do thermo damage or above, you are seriously underpowered. IIRC, around that area some ships are starting to get immunity to things like blast and ion... BTW, Ventari have a very high resistance to ion.
