I just started a 2nd new Permadeath playthough w/ The Network and did a mission where I was to terminate "illegal miners". I know mining is a convoluted system in Trans, but I was just wondering if the Pilgrim, who does not even have a miner's license (miner's license as in something aking to the military license),was an "illegal" miner as well. Doesn't that mean that the Pilgrim is 'stealing jobs from Commonwealth citizens' or something like that/ Why don't the mining stations send a police squad when you mine "illegally"?
P.S.-- I'll try to think up of a mod that does the police ship thing somehow.

I always thought that they were illegal because they build a permanent station without permission. But it is an interesting conundrum. As for the mod, there is a tag <OnMining> which works for asteroids. You could overwrite the asteroid code so that in addition to giving you ore you get attacked by angry Ronins

An illegal minor would be a person under the age of 21 who is illegal. I don't know how it could be illegal to be under the age of 21, but sure. Teenagers in ships come and attack youTtech wrote:Illegal Minors.

It would be interesting to have to look out for illegal miners

I though Illegal minors as in jailbait. (what parts of the internet are you traversing, Ttech?!)
But yeah, I'll check what I can do with <OnMining>

Space is really BIG, even if it's only a single system we are talking about (kinda like the internet). Mining should be free for all. I don't really understand on what ground the Commonwealth or any sort of authority can impose mining rights, hence I don't understand how mining can be illegal at all. Unless it's done by the enemy factions?

Say there is a large mining corporation. They buy out all the major mining companies, and have a monopoly on mining. They fund the president or governor or senators or whatever's election, and so the president or governor or senators or whatever owe them a few favors. Then a series of small mining companies start cropping up. The result: calling in a few favors, the large company gets the leader of Commonwealth to outlaw mining without a permit, which is sold by, guess who. The large company doesn't sell the permits to the enemy companies, and so the enemy companies are outlawed and the large company has their monopoly back.stealthx wrote:Space is really BIG, even if it's only a single system we are talking about (kinda like the internet). Hmmm... Really food for thought. Smells like cheating, ain't it?Drako Slyith wrote:Say there is a large mining corporation. They buy out all the major mining companies, and have a monopoly on mining. Always follow the money trail. Running a campaign takes a lot of money, more money than the candidate can afford. So who comes to the rescue? Big businesses looking to have a "friend" in office who owes him, *cough* favors. Favors they can use to get "ahead" in their markets.
