[George] Completely unimportant question about star names

Were the names of star systems chosen at random? Or was there a specific pattern? Because 70 Ophiuchi is 17ly away and Beta Centauri (Hadar) is 350ly away. They are not even close but yet are the same level. Also was there a reason you chose the stars you did and not others? 'Cause Teegarden's Star is an awesome name.

I got "Babbage" once in the 3rd succ game.
