My.

It looks. Amazing.

This is by far one of your (the!) best works. Ever.

What's causing the smudgy black reflection(?) on the main body (next to the double barreled turret?)

The detail!
By far one of the best i've seen you make - a true masterpiece! How come you work in the construction industry? You could probably make a bucketload of money every day with this quality of work 8)

Here's the raptor he made me:

Not sure. :?
I'm hoping it is because a) wasn't UVMapped yet, b) wasn't subdivided yet, c) only used 1RPP, or d) is from the shader's reflection.
I'll know later on, when I can finish it up.

Not to insult dvlenk6's work, which I do find very impressive, but the market for pre-rendered images isn't what it was in the late '90s. Now, if a mid-range rig can't render 8 of them at 30 fps, companies aren't interested. The magic comes from taking a beautiful model like dvlenk6's and compressing it without making it look like crap.

Almost no interest in pre-rendered images any more. With the sophisticated modern renderers (and powerful CPUs) now available, there is much more interest in 'render ready' models to use in animations. It is common now for even small startup game and film producers to have the ability to render their own scenes, without relying on third party specialists to supply pre made images.
Rigged models (especially for Poser) have a large market for individual 3D artists; but it is very competitive market and there are many people a lot better than me making very high quality models.

I work with a lot of meshes and know what quality-grade is as well as those shy of being or worse. And while I've seen some that are considered as "professional" meshes that are pretty steep in $, I believe that D6 could easily sell them as well. Don't cut yourself short, D6, your meshes are killer!

I'm not trying to be mean, but as Dvlenk6 points out, there is really no market for "mid-high end meshes". Lower quality meshes that can be rendered on the fly are needed, and super high quality meshes that look good on posters and TV are needed, but I just haven't seen many meshes from the middle in the media lately.

To be honest, with modern tools, it is too "easy" to create a good looking mesh that has way too much detail to be render-able in realtime. If you can make a mesh that looks as good as those and have it render ready, then you can get decent money.

I agree to that where the big-wig's reside. Of course they're only high end and will settle for nothing less. What I was referring to is selling those meshes to the art communities where other artists buy them, and they do buy them.
Those who model knows that it is time consuming to make a good mesh while the general artist who doesn't model are usually eager to buy them. I'm not saying this is a get rich scheme, but even to sell a few of your works is well worth the effort put into making them.

I'm not interested in selling meshes. I used to give them away, until abusive feedback made me quite that.
Now I just make them as I need them and use them for myself. I do 3D previsualization for construction bids, using EON Raptor w/ 3ds Max (realtime GI virtual environment) for walkthroughs. Same kind of thing you see in a builders' supply store for kitchens and the like.

Fantasy and Sci-fi rendering, really artistic rendering in general, is just a hobby that I find enjoyable.
