Well, I'm getting tired of starting at the same old Eridani system. And i'm sure several other people agree.
In a future version of Transcendence, you could put several different starting systems, and a random system selector. Each starting system's commonwealth station (or whatever you decide to put there) would offer different starting items that are considered a specialty to that system.
Theres another idea, specialty systems. Each system would have it's own unique items to sell, so Eridani could sell a Eridanian Blaster-ray (i know, dumb example) and St. K's could sell, st. k's st. ale? (my examples suck)
I would check to see if someone has already suggested this... but I seem to have a knack for ressurecting dead-threads. And kudos to whoever may have already suggested it.
Edit: Another suggestion. If you find a destroyed Commonwealth/Korolov/Militia/any freighter, there should be a tow rope (tether rope?) that you can attatch to the destroyed freighter and tow to the nearest Korolov/Commonwealth station. after that, you could be awarded for doing said action. Of course if you attatch the tow rope, their should be some complication. if you destroyed the freighter, then have the commonwealth/korolov find out just by examining it, and you could get arrested and/or the dead ships remains should be able to be destroyed more easily, and the tow cable can be broken, causing you to have to replace it if it does get broken. You could be able to tow super freighters, but your speed, thrust, and maybe manuverability, could be hindered depending on what cargo the freighter was carrying (which could could also apply to smaller freighters of course)

Nah, not as annoying. But seriously, I like the rope tow idea, cause it rocks. I know I'm not being clear, but I just don't know how to explain myself.Xephyr wrote:How about a tractor beam?Charon Mass of Goo wrote:there should be a tow rope (tether rope?) that you can attatch to the destroyed freighter and tow to the nearest Korolov/Commonwealth station.

Eridani is a 'hard' start- it's kinda hard to just randomize, and it also makes a good place to start from- it may get tiresome after a while, but it is helpful for new players and developed as almost a tutorial system.
It's also possible to randomize the Eridani system build, however the starting system is a storyline base, and it gives you just that- a good base to start from.
0.99 will have the ability to put new topology (including start systems) in the extensions as player mods- a very handy upgrade.
I have done extensive work in creating a network system that generates much more random games, and have been filling it in with random ship equipment mods, unique stations and 'bosses' and more- check it out, it's called Stone Soup topology, and once you get past eridani you won't know what hit you, I guarantee it.

True dat. but can't we have at least one little surprise added in there, to make the system worthwhile to explore thoroughly? like some hidden treasure cache that won't show up even if you use a System Map rom, you know, to give us a little boost once you start a new game?Periculi wrote:Eridani is a 'hard' start- it's kinda hard to just randomize, and it also makes a good place to start from- it may get tiresome after a while, but it is helpful for new players and developed as almost a tutorial system.

People who play it alot the starting level is easy, not that hard, but for a noob, its extremely hard. So making it more complex is not a good thing for the starting level necessarily.

Good point. Really good point. It was pretty hard for me when I played it for the first time, I died before I made St K's about ten times.
