Am I mistaken, or do these things actually add credits to a dock's account (when it is below maximum) whenever they themselves dock? I could just be hallucinating again.

Wouldn't surprise me. Stations do gradually increase their accounts after you empty them out. Of course, that seems to happen whether you are in system or not, so that may just be a function of time and have nothing to do with the transports.
