Right now, when something other that the player gates gates out of a system, it is gone forever. Shouldn't the ships go to the next system? That would make the most sense. It would also help the antarctica mission. The last time I played, when I got to the specail carrier to get the mission, my level wasn't high enough. So I just went on by. After going back to a system before point juno to get a high enough level, I came back and was kicked out of my new rank for failing the antarctica mission, which I had never recieved because the antarctica had gated out already. :? Needless to say, I was quite anoyed that I wouldn't have a chance at the full lamplighter.
I think this could be fixed by haveing ships acually travel through the stargates just as the player does.

Is this possible? Or would it slow the game down too much?
If you drop a bar of soap on the ground, is it dirty?
If a person is legally blind, and can suddenly see, is he breaking the law?
If a friend says he's going outside to get some air, what was he breathing before?

perculi would be the one to ask with his system26 mod.
A similar matter was posted by me

on making the game an EVN style nonlinear time based game with constraints on missions (Time) and how fast you can travel between Systems.
I think ill start a new topic on including taraceable ships (just the important ones) and time into the game just as soon as ive finished looking at system26

Too much would be needed to track all the ships.

Right now, only the system you are currently in is active in memory- the other systems are stored on disk.

I have been able to keep track of a ship outside of a current system, and even fleets, so for special cases it is very possible to follow an object around system to system. But this requires a framework that is constantly running in the background (I use my event manager which creates a game calendar and tracks events for me) but these event tracking systems can also become a drag to performance if overloaded with tasks to do and keep track of.

To do it for everything we would need to have all the systems be active all the time- so the game would become an enormous memory hog.

Only keeping track of one ship would be enough. Because if the Antarctica existed in the next system after it gates out then the mission would be doable for the average player.
