you can't easily return to systems why far back in the topo since they often won't support your fuel type(s)...
to try this out, i took a reasonable combo of level 8 and 9 (And a level 10 plasma cannon) items equiped in my ship with a hyperion and cargo bay fully loaded w/ fuel all the way back to eridani and back to point juno.
loadout was this:
wolfen
100MW mammoth
heavy ion cannon
plasma cannon
1GW reactor
about 20 tons of armor.
~600,000 in credits, ~100,000 in rins (to buy fuel until the stations nolonger offer it anymore...)
made it back, but barely, and I wasn't even able to shoot anything for fear of running out of fuel. I got lucky when i was down to my last 20% and I found a CSC...
what's annoying is that...

If it's really *that* much of a problem, you could always buy and install a lower-level reactor (and less energy-intensive toys) for the time you intend to be in the low-level systems, then put your 1 gig and big toys back on when you get back to the high level areas.
Here's what I do (spoilers!):
I collect all the fuel of any kind, and store it in a box in the elysium star system. I can access it from any star system, and get back to the system I was in with two or few gates. This is also a place to store loot, ammo, weapons I might later get around to using, and all the damaged armor that, along with all that spare fuel, I might feed to the teraton fabricators.

but i can never find a jump drive (i alwayse seem to get inertialess) and halo crystals are pretty rareomniaddict wrote:If it's really *that* much of a problem, you could always buy and install a lower-level reactor (and less energy-intensive toys) for the time you intend to be in the low-level systems, then put your 1 gig and big toys back on when you get back to the high level areas.

in my experience identifying a jumpdrive has been easy, the key is to look for 100mw, and despite having "drive" in the name it's image is that of a generic device such as patch spiders. it's the only such device.
If you can't get a jumpdrive before Pt. Juno, that game just isn't your game and you should commit ship seppuku.... I use Elysium for storage too, but at some point, having 100+ segments of tharsis and heavy tharsis plate in a box around that blue star seemed kinda pointless..
heavily armored box.
I almost never use Elysium. If one has level VIII or IX armor (which I will if I have that kind of equipment) one can just turn off your shield and such until you get there and back. An omni would be preferable if you wished to do this though.
Fuel Depots won't refuel with Pcternium (sp?)?

and seriously- you don't need a jumpdrive to beat the iocrym. lamplighter +Fast and hyperion is good enough- in theory, with those two + light titanium armor and nothing else, you can beat the iocrym (just stay a good distance from it and keep hitting it. those quantumshpheres are easily shot downF50 wrote:Fuel Depots won't refuel with Pcternium (sp?)?
