I'm impressed with how this game models realistic astronomical distances and speeds - how lasers appear to travel at light speed, considering the distances are measured in light-seconds and time is sped up by a factor of 50 in gameplay.
I would, however, like to be able to play the game without the time compression - probably not for long, but it would be interesting to see how the game feels in "real-time" - where it takes 10 seconds for a laser to reach a target 10 light-seconds away, where crossing a solar system takes some real time.
Is there a way I can change the game speed easily through modding? And is there a chance we might have a key that can be pressed to temporarily activate a mode where everything isn't sped up?

Correction, factor of 60, not 50.

we could just make drugs usable...and then make it slow things down....but then if you dock at a commonwealth station while drugged you get a huge fine....

Why are you bringing up drugs? What does that have to do with what I'm talking about? I'm just wondering if there's a way to mod the game so that the time flows in realtime - "1 second = 1 second" instead of "1 second = 1 minute"...how do you get from that to drug use and commonwealth fines?BlackPheonix wrote:we could just make drugs usable...and then make it slow things down....but then if you dock at a commonwealth station while drugged you get a huge fine....
Think we have a fine example here of why drugs are bad!

Unfortunately, I don't think it is currently possible to mod the game to change the time-scale.
Someday in the far future, I may create a version with variable time rates to support greater than 30-frames per second. At that point, I think what you want would be easy. Right now, though, there are many places (such as the frame animations) that assume the current time-scales.

Actually playing the game like that would be really boring...but it would be awesome to see. Maybe a stripped down version that just has the physics and a couple of targets along with a couple of weapon options available or something? I dunno.
X-ray laser! Pew, pew pew!
