How Korolov works

So, a few things have always bugged me about the korolov shipping scheme. They're providing escorts to freighters, and they're obviously transshipping freight from one freighter to another. So why are they sometimes in terribly out of the way locations? The other thing that bothered me was pirates attacking after the freighter has delivered the goods. They don't do that anymore (rock on, George!), so that's not an issue.

Anyway, I'd like to see more Korolov stations located at or directly in between stargates. If you think about it, their goals should be twofold: Provide escort for freighters as efficiently as possible, and minimize travel times. A Korolov station at a stargate means that freighters are covered from the moment they enter that gate to dock with the station. Escort to other points in the system can be provided from there. This means freighters coming from the other direction are unescorted until they reach the station, though. This does suggest some other possible missions; Taking out ambushes, waiting at the gate for a freighter, answering distress calls from freighter whose escort doesn't turn up, that sort of thing.

In short: I think Korolov stations should be placed like CW Fortress nav beacons, or directly on top of one of the gates.

Nav beacon-like placement would be a good idea

There's a bug w/ reinforcements that makes placing almost any station near a gate a bad idea (the area tends to clog up w/ wreaks on hundreds of ships)

Changelog says that's fixed for next version. (For pirate ships, anyway)

EDIT: Whoops, not quite yet. But it's on the roadmap for next version.
