are the centauri REALLY easy?
did you get an early particle cannon?
did you befriend the Huari?
is Point Juno easy as ever?

Tell us about it!
I'm using a wolfen gunship
I've been caught up w/ various stuff so i'm just before PJ, working up to become a fleet officer (boy do i hate escort missions! who in their right mind would use a stock EI100 in ARES space!? Especially when the guy gaurding you has a 30% boosted fusion fire cannon that can one-shot ares, let alone a little freighter... >.>). I actually made it almost this far w/ only a speed enhanced lancer (who ever new that it could be that devastating!?), a mammoth 25 and an enhanced 150NX reactor (180) (my armor was 45HP particle reflecting dwarg armor)... Then i tossed in a 30% buffed fusion fire, a speed enhanced katana, a mammoth 50, and a nova 250 (also jumped directly up to some lvl9 armor). Reason my ship is still fairly low-level is since i'm saving up to jump directly to: IM90(Fast fire enhanced or w/ ion capacitor), Kaidun + ion or antimatter reflect (I gotta loot that one), enhanced Hyperion reactor ( have a stash of heliotrope fuel and sung crystals for the job), Plasma cannon (Fast fire enhanced), and the good old lamplighter (w/ fast fire...).
Yes- i carry a stash of weapon enhancement roms w/ me... >.>

Early game I stuck it out to the arena w/ only an arbalest and my dual lasers. I even kept the hull plate ionizer past st. kats!

The Centauri are pathetically easy, especially that boss dude.

Right now I am between St. K and Sanctuary trying to get some cash to buy the 250 MW and hopefully find someplace to install that Mammoth 100 I bought (a bad idea, now that I know there is no place to install it until I can get a plasma generator). I an invincible deflector, shuriken neutron blaster, Shtorm repeater (really nice gun), and omni-particle.

Point of note: the marauder stronghold explosion is a bit bigger than I had anticipated  There goes my insurance.

I got through my first game pretty quickly in an EI500, and now I'm flying around in a shiny Charon Frigate looking for the Huari :)

Let's see the centauri are almost too easy. but in 0.98d they were annoying with their ship shape. and that ship is gone now.

battle pods sorta end up filling that role of small pesky enemy... maybe buff their main weapon? give it really long range?

I think the centauri in Eridani are just about perfect--for introducing a new player to the game. Leave 'em be. Arco's raider is good enough to take out anything using a class I deflector, so it has the effect of forcing the player to understand the upgrade system to beat him. It's a really good system, I think.

As for the Hornets: they're useless, until you charge into the middle of an anarchist gathering or settlement. Overconfidence is fun!

The Centauri are very good for an intro, but I will definitely beef them up in a mod.

for an intro yes, though it's good someone is buffing them in a mod.

IM90 still murders pretty much everything.

But now earning money is harder than ever.

Both true, but if you can get an early particle weapon + a weapon enhancement rom, you're pretty much set for the next ten systems... :D

definatly, i found a lancer before rigel, i'm still using it well into sung space! with no signs of giving it up either.

i did manage to befriend the huari, and discovered that 1. cool 2. they shoot at my wingmen, 3. there's an error in the first mission, i think i fixed it though.

the error in the first mission is where it repeats over and over and over right?

I think, now that the Centauri take the place of the easy to kill enemies. And now that <Devices> now accepts tables. The Corsairs need random weapons. It makes them harder and more like the pirates they are. Plus it'd be awesome to try to defend your poor Korolov freighter against a corsair with a particle beam.
This is our game. And George is our hero.
