I just completed the game with no mods for the first time. I actually had a really good playthrough. The only thing that luck caused me to miss was Korolov missions, more than two tinkers, and an Advanced Trintium Cannon. I played with the Wolfen. By Heretic, I had the Lamplighter (non-prototype), Fusionfire Howitzer +130%, Plasma Cannon, Lightning Turret, Plasma Torch, NAMI Heavy laucher, Plasma Shield with positron reflect, four plates of Diamond Lattice with regen, a Smugglers cargo hold, and a Damaged Patch Spider.
Almost every other time I've played I've gotten an Advanced Tritium Cannon. This time I didn't even see one. The fusionfire made up for it. I found enough tritium upgrades to make it take out Ranx gunships in one shot. It was also an awesome station killer. Its one problem was that if you fired one too many times at a ship, it would often destroy the wreck before you could loot it.
I think that this combination of weapons, shield and armor is my favorite. Diamond lattice has definitely become my favorite. And I always use regenerating nanos on it.
What are some other peoples favorite weapon/shield/armor combos for the last parts of the game?
Great Playthrough

If you drop a bar of soap on the ground, is it dirty?
If a person is legally blind, and can suddenly see, is he breaking the law?
If a friend says he's going outside to get some air, what was he breathing before?

For the Wolfen my preferences are Fusionfire, Katana, Makayev launcher, and something exotic. Possibly an omni of some sort. The other slots go for a patcher arm, a shield >= plasma shield, and a reactor, usually the 500mw enhanced. Depending on my shield I want either diamond lattice or stealth armor.

Ditch the damaged patch spiders- they only waste your fuel and energy.
I would have gone for a Kaidun shield or a Mammoth 100

About the patch spider, I just kept forgetting when I got to a station to uninstall it. Plus it doesn't take a device slot and uses very little energy from a 1GW reactor.
I like the plasma over any of the Mammoths because it regens faster. It seems to me that the Kaidun has some vulnerabilities?

not really... especially not fully enhanced (250% = 2000HP)... That looks like the exact opposite of weakness... and for 150MW? not bad...bluesaberist wrote:About the patch spider, I just kept forgetting when I got to a station to uninstall it. Well, there is a really good work-around for the down-time, just disable and then enable the shield, it starts regenerating right away, but the regen is soooooo sssssssssllllllllooooowwwwwwww.
What do you use to enhance your shield? I always use field crystals to make mine reflect. Can you use a field crystal and ROM at the same time? or so you use diamond field crystals? It seems to me that using positron reflect (for shipyards) or ion reflect (Point Juno) to nullify 80% of the damage is better than to take it all, even if you have a ridiculous amount of hit-points. (And particle reflect for slavers and xenophobes)

I actually had an ion shield with positron reflect... Worked wonders on the ares, but I got pwned by particle weapons...

I won't use trenton because it lets through EMP and device damage. If it would just block those it would be perhaps the best shield in the game. I've never used the MX because plasma shields are too easy to get when the Invincible goes obsolete. The Nephren X1 and the Taikon-200 have the advantage of letting you use flimsy armor. Stealth armor is fun, but it won't stop much so you need a reliable shield.

Yeah, that problem is rather annoying... If they had EMP/DeviceDamage immune armor (like meteor steel) really usuable at late game the trenton would be much more viable... but those stupid ventari will pwn you if you have the trenton.Atarlost wrote:I won't use trenton because it lets through EMP and device damage.
