So frontier came up in IRC today, and I decided that it would be a fun idea to do a remake of the Osaka-class transport from Frontier 0.5 (the precursor to Transcendence). The default weapon is going to be a recoiless weapon, as it was in the original game, however I'm looking for input on this ship's other stats.

The help file's description is this:
Your ship is an Osaka-class multi-role transport which you bought as surplus from a Nakura military base. Though normally used as a troop transport, you've been able to adapt it to your needs by adding some heavier armor and a single recoilless cannon.

Changelog:
-1.0 initial release
-1.1 changed point of rotation to be a little more centered.
-1.1a changed starting cargo mass to 75 to compensate for a bug in which Transcendence only adds 100 tons to cargo space
-1.1b Updated with some compatibility stuff for future version of TMU (.94/.93b+).
-1.1c Added credits list; req. 1.0RC8
-1.1d Now with a transparency-supporting bitmask, so it now has no jagged-borders
-1.1e Improvements for pre 1.04 versions of transcendence

About the frontier ship, I think it should be positioned between the sapphire and the freighter. It's a multi role transport but not quite a freighter.

mass - between 50 and 100
reactor - 20
fuel - 40000 - 50000
cargo - 75 - 100 (depends on mass)
maxcargo = 160 - 180 (depends on mass)
thrust - depends on mass but mass to thrust ratio should be 1:1 to 1:3 (using values in xml. Not the thing that the game outputs)
maneuver - 3
max speed - 19

max armor - 15000 (around this value. Can't remember the breakpoints)
maxdevices - 8
max weapons - 3
max non weapons - 5 (I wonder if you can use both at the same time...)
leaves wreck - 50

devices
recoilless cannon
cyclotron s10 (why? cuz it's new)
ceramic plate (why? just cuz it hasn't been used yet)
maybe a disposable dm600 rack (no extra money then)
money - similar to the sapphire or a bit lesser. the shield is better for shorter battles and most early battles are short. No extra money if you put the dm600...

(I think this would make it ideal without overpowering it. All other balancing can be done using characteristics the mass, fuel, thrust and cargo and maxcargo characteristics.)

Ofcourse, this is just my personal idea. Change it anyway you wish.

It actually looks a little like the Britannia......I'll be interested in this as a player ship....it sounds really nice! :D

Shamefully I admit - I never knew Frontier existed! Please tell me there's a decompiler for Frontier, ala TransData!

I've never got the hang of Frontier....the UI is harder to work out, and navigation is harder. But it's kinda fun!

It'll be a nice addition to Trasncendence...the ship that started it all off! :D

I'm actually sorta surprised that George had the model and didn't make it into a ship... then again, it may have been in those mysterious pre-.7 days (like the mysterious blocky-white EI100, which looks like a better precuser than the red brick did to the original silver EI500).
This ship along with one of the anacreon ships... (the sorta enlongated top-half football one with the tall fin on the bottom.)

What I find most interesting about the two ships is that they were both the flagships of their respective games (the Osaka was the playership of Frontier and the Anacreon ship appears on practically every page on the Anacreon section of neurohack.) and yet neither came into transcendence, yet practically all of the basis of Frontier got into Transcendence, and things from Hornets to Tripolis to the stargate design got from Anacreon to Transcendence.

i miss the old centauri footballs. it was a toss up between that and the hornet to which was the weakest swarm, but at least the hornets have speed and a slightly better weapon.

If the light recoilless is the same it's been it's actually arguably a better weapon. Same ROF, 20% more average damage per shot.

There's a slight inconsistency; the in-game ship has a light blue stripe, not a red one...
