Greetings.
In these forums somewhere was discussion about fines for destroying friendly ships(salvagers, etc.). This morning as I was playing, I came across a wrecked salvager. Of course, needing all the creits I can get, I docked and began looting the goodies it held. That's when I realized how those fines should work and something else that occurred to me. If a player destroys a friendly ship and docks with it, that ship's "log" is added to the player's "log" so that when they dock at a CW station, the CW knows that the player did indeed attack the friendly. That "log" would also show that although the player did dock with and loot the ship, the player did not attack that ship.
As for the ships that can be attacked/looted, what about having the ability to get a "finder's fee" or wreck recovery fee from the tinkers or other stations. The player's "log" would record the type of ship, system position, amount of structural damage etc. The station would then calculate a price based on this info, deduct a fee for distance and whatnot and pay in the early game credits and mid to late game, credits or rins. There should be at least one station of this type per system.
Just some thoughts from a very early morning round of Transcendence 0.97.
Wreck recovery
There was discussion in these forums about fines/arrest for destroying salvagers for their loot. My thought was "how would a station know you were the one who destroyed it?" If there was a ships log, one the player has no control over, that "keeps track" of all encounters. In other words, the log would record you docking with an already wrecked salvager as well as recording you attacking the salvager. Thus when you dock at a CW station, the fine is levied or you are arrested.
I take it you mean before St K, there's nothing before Eridani yet... George! Do you want an idea?PlayMeNow wrote:What? In the Eridani station it says that legally equiped ships can destroy ANY pirate. So, if you are using an illegal weapon or illegal munition, you will be fined or arrested, but only before Eridani.

Not at all a bad idea to hold the player responsible for destroying a salvager, nothing that should end your game tho, i think.
Thanks for the replies.
I should have mentioned friendly ships or stations also. Most of the replies here have dealt with the fines/arrest for doing bad things to the good guys. What about the other part of the question? Should there be some type of recovery for wrecks and a fee generated for the player? Should these wrecks be somehow repaired and be available for resale? Should it be the Tinker stations where these transactions take place or should it be a CW station? Could the Salvagers be involved somehow as even though they are green and loot wrecks, could they be the ones who resell the wrecks that they loot? Are these good ideas or bad?
What I am truly getting at is that there are players out there who have brought up the idea for being able to purchase a different ship than the one they start a game with. I personally like this idea. But, the ability to do so begs the question new or used or both.
With all of the wrecks one finds in a system that has no known Salvagers in them, what happens to those wrecks? I have looted wrecks and it seems like I get everything but the hull! Other times, it seems like the hull is all that is left. So if the player can loot everything except the hull, why not have a way to make a few credits or rins from it too. Then when you collect that "finder's fee" the station "alerts" the ones who collect the wrecks.
Is what I am suggesting too complicated to pull off? I know some of this will have to be taken care of by George and I am sure there will be modders out there trying to come up with a way to help make it work.
Anyway, again, thanks for the replies.

There has been a previous topic about trading in player ships and I believe George is aware of it as well. But, as for your idea of using the wrecks as "used" tradeable player ships-at a discount of course, does sound purtty kewl. And it does sound practical as well, as those wrecks have to go somewhere instead of laying around and cluttering up space.

... or by mistake. Try hitting an Ares Sandstorm with a Fusionfire Howitzer and most of the time you'll end up wrecking something "green" if anywhere near.FAD wrote:Actually, you can kill Salvengers and not get penalized-at least, not arrested anyway. I kill them all just for the loot of it.

You'd have to be a really good marksman to hit that little guy with a Fusionfire, but it can be done...in a lowered percentage capacity, of course.
The easiest way to take out a Scavenger is to be equipped with radiation immune armor (or decon gel in the hold), a NAMI and 1 Reaper. He normally won't return fire if you only cap him once. Then, follow him until his time is up then loot the spoils. He'll also help defend you if enemy ships happen to come around...just try to keep him between you and the enemy, they'll eventually hit him and he'll go off on them.
