[the '*' is a placeholder used by the admin CP in phpbb2 when blocking names]
2) post registrations instructions on the main page or something (where its really easy to see [the part about emailing neurohack.com w/ something transcendence related]
Suggestions for the forum prior to 1.0
Also get the ban-hammers out.
Otherwise We'll be flooded in game referals, adds for Viagra, male-appendage enlargements, and spambots.
Oh, and illiterate people, but there's not much you can do about them.

I was under the impression this would be still blocked by the admin-activation?Shrike wrote:Otherwise We'll be flooded in game referrals, adds for Viagra, male-appendage enlargements, and spambots.

assuming that transcendence will explode in popularity after the 1.0 release...

We always get a spike in activity after every major release; the RC's were much more... secret, so to speak. They were never even published on the main page.

I do agree that someone with more time on their hands should be added to help George with activations. Also, there are old user names in the registered user list that need to be culled out as obvious spam bots.

If you are attempting to imply what I think you are attempting to imply, there are other candidates more likely to be picked (*cough*betel*cough*)schilcote wrote:*coughcough*PKodon wrote:I do agree that someone with more time on their hands should be added to help George with activations. I'm on here several times a day... I check the forums almost obsessively, especially when I'm bored. I just don't post quite as much as I used to because a lot of the discussion doesn't interest me.

Just a note of caution... I enjoy this game a lot and I like coming to these forums to read the latest discussions, but I wanted to point out that most forums aren't nearly as difficult to get activated at as this one and don't let your name expire or become inactive nearly as quickly. If you want to make it even more difficult for users to create and maintain their membership here you may eventually find yourself with a very small group of users circulating the same discussions and that's probably not what you want.
That is true... I waited a couple of months for my activation...
EDIT:
You know, I could probably write a bot to automatically delete spam posts (maybe have an IRC bot frontend and if three people say "!spam (url)" it deletes it or something)...
Then again, probably not. It'd probably not be worth the effort to make it interface with the PHPBB interface which is designed for humans (but if I took a few hints from the spambots...).
