Is it possible that the reason it's doing this slowdown has anything to do with your Vista computer being dual-core?

I've read that some programs have problems on dual-core machines because they are written to run on a single-core, and you have to adjust some settings in the OS to let it know to run the program exclusively on one core.

Sorry I don't know any specifics, since I have a single-core machine running XP, but it's something you might wish to look into.

Digdug,

Curious, how did you get the information you posted?

Transcendence ran fine on my dual-core Vista machine the last time I tried it.
[schilcote] It doesn't have to be good, it just has to not be "wow is that the only thing you could think of" bad

I believe transcendence is multithreaded, no?

Anyways, my 2 powerful XP computers are multi-core (4 and 2), and my linux comp is dual core (... I still need to get a new PSU for it...)

no problems with them...

Someone else said graphics drivers, and that could cause this kind of problem. Besides that, the only other thing I can think of is something software related, like an anti-virus.

Not anti-virus, as they all have the exact same anti-virus software (avg free 9)... The drivers shouldn't be causing it either... Anyhow, once I get around to it, I'll do what george told me to do on the other laptop and post the data up here.
