I just witnessed an EI500 dock with a radioactive wreck and destroy it. It was then irradiated and the adventurer outfitters it docked to did not decontaminate it. I didn't wait around and watch but I'm pretty sure it died shortly thereafter from the radiation (and I saw a couple of dead radioactive wolfens sitting on a docking port at some other stations).
While not technically a bug, the ai should be smart enough not to dock with something when doing so means certain death (and likely another ship to do the same on its wreck...)
Suicidal ai wreck clearing
I have seen salvager nomads do the exact same thing *insert evil laugh here*
For Sale: One slightly used EI500 freighter. Hull damaged, primary weapon defective, shields inoperable. Must be towed to Dry-dock. Make an offer!!
"Oi! Bill! This one 'ere's glowing!"
"Yes, yes, jolly good, now hurry up and dock."
"But Bill.....it's...glowing!"
"Yes. I heard you. Dock. Now."
"But"
"DOCK DAMNIT!"
*ten minutes later*
"Arrrrrrgh!"

In 1.02 Salvagers avoid the radioactives, as I keep finding them with loot while the rest of the wrecks are stripped clean. Which version was this?
Then again, I haven't seen many Salvagers after Charon so maybe they all choked somewhere...

But that practically never happens, and by that stage, they are still rather squishy.

Yes, they are rare after St. Katherine's, but they can appear nonetheless; and the threat of their presence can deter storage plans until the salvagers are eliminated. The last thing I want is to drop some great loot, then a salvager takes it. Worse if it equips your loot, then you lose it because its wreck gets shattered if it looted explosives.
I have encountered salvagers past St. K's in two or three games.

First thing I always do is hunt down the salvagers (milk an easy station for wreck-producing ships, then once a mass-graveyard is produced, go do some stuff, and come back and see if any salvagers are there, or have cleaned out the wrecks.)

Salvagers don't respawn, but IMO they should!
Safe stashing should be handled by some other game mechanism, eg. locked storage boxes for sale, some storage network stations (like the mod built by taben). I am sure there are other better mechanisms.

Mule autons, parked over the star or inside the gate rings (as long as you have a targeting rom)
I usually have a few mules, and keep track of my inventory by designating one mule for damaged equipent, one for trade goods, one for ammo, barrels, roms and other useful stuff.
Leave them on a planet and empty everything you don't immediately need, jump to the next system, clear out a planet's orbit or some other safe haven, go back and collect your mules and park them in your new safe house.
It takes a bit of time, and can be frustrating trying to get the mule to sit right on a planet, but when you hit a system where you can unload most/all your swag you should be set for a few systems.
