No, not really; borers are in no way motorcycles. They're just like motorcycles, except... everything.
And nobody goes around on a unicycle on the road.

Motorcycles would have to be the Anarchist ships - fitting, because they're kind of like a gang. Borers are more like flatbed trucks - they're used in many industrial operations.

Strange how we can turn a conversation like this into cars.

Hornets are like skateboarders. Somewhat annoying, until they make a mistake and hit something, at which point they become hilarious.*

Although personally I see them more as ships. The Wolfen is a fast jetboat (look it up on wikipedia if you don't know wht those are) with guns, the sapphire is....well....a yacht....

And a centauri raider is like a man trying to kill a supertanker by rowing alongside and shooting it with a BB gun.

*No offense to any skateboarding enthusiasts, that was not a serious comment)

Ironically, that bb-gun can take out the shields on a state-of-the-art dreadnought.

Which just goes to show that military designers should pay more attention to the little things.

Hit with off-topic cannon!

Anyway. Speaking seriously, why not resurrect stuff from Frontier?

As in ship ideas?
They also seem to suffer the same symptom; all fighters & freighters

Well, the Earthzone strikes me as being a technical built on a space minibus.

EI probably should have something similar since UAS is defunct. They would be used on routes from nearly all habitats to commercial stations and corporate enclaves.

A liner for top level korolov escort would fit in the universe.

Some other yachts that are pretty much identical to the sapphire in stats could be put in, but since they'd be pretty much identical to the sapphire they'd be bottom priority.

BTW, the IAVs (Improvised Armored Vehicles) are also meant to be "technicals."

Also, originally I was planning on a couple of extra ships for Korolov escorts:

1. Orion-class tanker: a smaller version of the Scarab that would carry valuable liquids (water/hydrocarbons/chemicals/etc).

2. Empress-class liner: a .16c passenger ship.

But I ran out of time to implement them; perhaps in a future version.

Ah, I was right! the empress was a liner meant for korolov escorting.

I had no clue the orion was a liquids tanker though

I picture the anarchists as space hippies or punks with bicycles and vans. And the Centauri raiders I see as technicals... based on riced-out Civics.

What would ships other than fighters and freighters do? Shuttles would fly like freighters, just with human cargo. There isn't any deep-space fishing. Most recreation (most life, really) happens on or very near stations and planets. Should all residential stations have traffic like St. Kat.'s Commonwealth station? Random stations now are mostly monolithic. If they generated as complexes like anarchist Gatherings or Starton Eridani, small, short-range ships could fly between and around the stations.

Point being, you do need to be able to travel from station to station; some people would very much enjoy doing it in style. Hence fancier personal transportation beyond just bawsic shuttles.
Many of the lone stations would have people commuting from their places of residence to their places of work. [these would be the various corporate businesses]

I thought the corporates were all fairly well self-contained. Enclaves are, at least.

I do agree that maybe stations could be small complexes instead of standalones. Could allow more variety in potential shops (e.g. a local armor shop in a CW complex instead of just all on its lonesome nowhere near a stargate).
My first mod, mostly done, still balance testing.
