First time poster, thanks to George for fixing up my registration  .

So, I've been playing Trans as Beta for a while now, only just got the new edition recently and have since been quite thrilled with it. I've only once got to the end system (not core) and that was with 76 rebirths. Never got past Iocrym ship and gave up. :(

So now, I'm looking to get to the core, in under 25 restarts or so.

What do I go with? I'm quite indecisive, especially when it comes to the shield and weapon choices.

Any help is welcome. Is Wolfen better than Sapphire? Laser better than Kinetic?

I'm not a total noob, but I would just like a few different opinions before I start a new game.

Thanks! :P

First off, you got as far as you can get. Right now the Iocrym Command Ship is the final boss. The rest of the game doesn't exist yet.

Wolfen is better than sapphire. The sapphire arguably catches up later in the game, but if you're dieing 76 times stick with the Wolfen unless it's completely unsuited to your playstyle. And if the Wolfen isn't your style you probably want the freighter, not the sapphire.

Kinetics do more damage than laser, but laser usually has better range and is easier to hit with. Damage types on the same tier are nominally equal. That'd be laser and kinetic, particle and blast, ion and thermo, and positron and plasma.

A basic strategy is to keep your equipment up to date and be better equipped than your enemies: If they hit you with laser, hit them with particle (maybe unless you have a laser collimator ;) ), they have particle weapons? Buy a good ion weapon and so on.

Weapons that do kinetic, blast or thermo damage are generally more efficient against stations than laser or particle.

Also keep a look at what damage types your shield and armor resist and exchange those items accordingly.
Apart from that there are shields - like the Mammoth - with lots of hit point and pretty low regen rate or lower hp, but faster regen. I you often get surprised by enemy encounters, maybe one of the faster (6-10/s) regenerating shield generators is probably a good choice.
Later (level 7 or 8? and above) can be tuned by field crystals to resist certain damage type. Speaking of that: Armor can be enhanced too...

Since I play the freighter most of my game, Id advise you to try having an omnidirectional weapon (of the right damage type ...) installed at all times.

I hate mining, so I just blow up everything and loot stuff, and do missions (korolov, arena, argi station) and if I don't have a dual particle/shuriken or better by charon, I give up and start anew. Its really just if the RNG loves you. I seem to be in a love affair with the RNG though, because I have gotten at least a shuriken in every recent playthrough by charon.

Dual-turbolaser is my early-game weapon of choice....I can even save Charon with it, if I'm careful. Work hard to find/get/make/buy one, then combat all the way.

Although I do use trade-routes where possible.

I used to just blow up everything but that didn't exactly work out because I find myself @ St. K's with no money and insufficient combat power to get more.
I really don't care if I get my hair cut... *snip* NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

you 'splode stuff once you loot the stuff out, my trick is I have a cargo container on the sun where I store all the loot and make runs to a Commonwealth Station.

If early game strategy then I suggest wolfen would be the best choice.

The weapon in wolfen is already fine, you can live out and win the arena with only a NAMI missile launcher and a Yoroi S100 generator(+50% if possible). Money won't be a problem, by the first galaxy, buy a miner's cargo hold already, and sell every loot you can find. It'll be heaven for you if a Tinker shows up in the 4 starting galaxies.

After that it's your choice to change weapons or not. You can easily go out to St. Kath's with your current gear, even clear the Charon Galaxy.

That's how I played in 1.01

Though I'm that guy who always presses Esc+3+1 so...

Anyway right now I'm using a Sapphire Yatch, and believe me, it's near impossible to win the arena with only a DK1 Arbalest cannon. Well, with like 60+ suicides... it is.

Oh, and the best weapon early-mid game(even up to near late game) if it appears fast would be the PK1 Morning Star(correct me if the PK1 part is wrong). Not only does it 'immediately' destroys the enemy armor, but it also quickly destroys wrecks and stations. Yes there are better weapons, but this is my weapon of choice ATM for it's wreck destroying powahs.

I'll be observing from afar.

It's general enough I don't think of it as real necromancy.

I don't know what they're called. Lol.

So should I call them star systems afterwards?
