That would be a useful screen to have. I can usually remember (though not always) what ROMs i've used before, though.Czert wrote:screen with instaled ROMs (vizual enhanced, targeting, rovena sets....etc) and preveting using the same (permanent) ROMs again.
And also the little "Crystal too advanced..." message BEFORE actually using the crystal.Czert wrote:screen with instaled ROMs (vizual enhanced, targeting, rovena sets....etc) and preveting using the same (permanent) ROMs again.

Some day, I will have a screen that shows all the installed ROMs. But this is low priority for me--probably won't happen until after 1.0.
As for using up crystals that don't work on your shields: I'm not sure yet. Certainly, I think that when you use an unknown crystal, it should be used up regardless of whether it is compatible or not. But if you've already identified the crystal, maybe the game should warn you (or just prevent you from doing it).
Another possibility is that if you use a crystal on a shield that is not advanced enough, there is a chance that the shield will be enhanced and a chance that the shield will be damaged.
Again, neither of these are high priority right now... but I agree that something needs to be done eventually. Thanks.

To my interpretation of "eventually" I have only one thing to say: THANKS IN ADVANCE.george moromisato wrote:Some day, I will have a screen that shows all the installed ROMs. But this is low priority for me--probably won't happen until after 1.0.

The Total V.U.I. mod by Prophet offers at least some of the functionality you are asking for, but with new user activated software programs so it isn't totally useless.
To prevent you from using a rom that is already installed (targeting, visual display upgrade) would require editing the item's invoke scripts directly. There's no other way to prevent the item from being consumed on subsequent uses.
The dockscreen to show what is already installed would be trivial but I don't feel it would be very useful on its own. I have taken note and will perhaps add it to the next release of the V.U.I.

IIRC you can know which rom have which effect , even before instaling it, but you must have instaled corect info ROM first (something like rowena set, but it is not rowena).Amilir wrote:Why? Targeting/vis display/autopilot are the only three and they're stupid easy to check. Besides, you only know what a ROM is if you've installed one, with insignificant exceptions.
If is no ROMs with infos for barrels/roms/autons it will be nice if someone make them.
For targeting - I thing they are here two versions. I have instaled targeting, but can target only enemies at short range, and I rememer in earlier games targeting of enemies at long range and friendlies/stations too.
And this screen can open up posibility to create ships with computers which have some roms allready instaled. Having ROMs in cargohold from start of game and using them imediatly is posible, but not very realistic.

There is only one Targeting rom, to target friendly ships or stations press the "F" key.
The Rowena roms simply don't exist anymore, and there are no roms for identifying barrels, roms, or autons.
Also, all three of the playerships do start with one rom installed; the autopilot rom.
