Oh, it's possible for Arco to defeat newbies. If he gets a level 2 or higher shield and they don't know to knock the shield down with non-missiles before unloading the missiles on him it's possible for him to soak the whole supply from Raisu up without dieing.

Of course after throwing that many missiles at him he'll follow them when they run away and wind up killed by station defenders.

I don't usually complete the Arco Vaughn quest; instead I just get the free Stillettos missiles using the Wolfen.

Really, their ought to be a better reward for killing that guy...the player has no incentive to complete the mission, past trying to get some loot off of Arco's ship/station.

Making the reward more consistant would certainly help...

Most missions end with a cash prize. Arco shouldn't be any different. Give the player 500 creds -- in the early game, that's quite a carrot to go bounding after a supposedly 'tough' warlord.

I'm thinking more in terms of loot, actually....sometimes, his loot is genuinely useful. Other times, there's nothing. making it more consistent would be useful.

It does seem to be kind of ... missing something, the end of it here. You return to Raisu station and the station manager hugs you and tells you her name, which is apparently either so inconsequential or so important* that the player is not informed of what his avatar hears, and then you never see her again and nothing ever comes of it.

(*I'm sure there's a TV trope for "And your father is *audio cuts out for no apparent reason* ...")

Maybe there should be a UGW based mod where, for defeating Arco, the stationmaster offers to join you in a minimally equipped IAV.

(And maybe there should be a horrible alternate gimmick ending in which the ICS is replaced with a heavy centauri raider named after the person writing to Arco, with Wolfen speed and the ICS's weapons ... nah :P)

Oh, and I looked at eridani.xml the other while ago, and there's something in there about him coming after the player if too many of the centauri ducats guarding Raisu have been destroyed; has anyone experienced this?

Better that than just using the star wars system, where the station master (who is, of course, female) goes 'Luke, I AM YOUR FATHER!' Player: "NOOOOOOOO!"

:D

Well, the "reward" is currently more conscience thing......unless someone wants to rewrite that bit with a make-out scene. Please.....DON'T.

I think you get something written in the "Accomplishments and regrets" player info thingy...

Really, even if it is a conscience thing, Raisu station should at least sell some basic goods...sheesh.

Otherwise, why the hell was Arco guarding Raisu anyway? It doesn't make sense, unless I missed something.

And as for the nameless woman you jumped through all the hoops for...she could at least give you something better than a hug. A stuffed teddy bear or something....throw me a bone here! >.>

That happened to me once. I was gleefully slaughtering the little raiders as soon as they gated into the system. I'd racked up something like 20 kills. Then I was like, hey look, a heavy raider! Maybe I'll be able to loot a claw cannon... So I opened fire with my recoiless cannon, landed a few hits, then 'kaboom' and I was dead.
"Lmoy was destroyed by Arco Vaughn in the Eridani system..."
I really should have upgraded my Sapphire...
