It's because shooting the crap out of frigates so you get better missiles is so...lucrative.

Farming drakes and frigates is quite worth it later on, because then you have relatively limitless free ammo you can go back and stock up on. Sure, it can get dated in late-game, but its awesome for dealing with the enemies in the maurader-dwarg region.

Ouch, that killed me good.

Admittedly, I was out at Eta Ceti with nothing more than a souped up X-ray laser for my weapons (although I DID have a plasma shield, so...)

I needed some rins, so I decided to blow up some Ferian mines and such. Bam. Dead. Those plasma cannons are NASTY.

an X-ray laser?
IIRC, the ferian warriors are using light ithalium, or something level 8, and at that level, they are only receiving ~8% of the damage from your lasers IIRC. The miners have level ... 4 or 5 armor, IIRC, and given just how many of them you are, an x-ray laser isn't really going to cut it (ie, at level 5 alone they are getting only 1/3rd of the damage dealt I think)

I was going to move to a Fusionfire- but I was waiting for a better reactor. I was sitting on a piddly 180 megawatts.

And at Eta Ceti?
At that point, I Suppose I'd have just ended up paying for the next reactor up.

I would have, too.

If I'd have been able to find ANYWHERE to upgrade it. >.>

Really? wow. That's... pretty strange. Not a single CSC?

The CSCs offer the upgrade service.

I always get only one CSC in my games, it sucks because then you cannot get special weapons.

Bloody hell, what are those Ventari packing? I think Ventari destroyers have killed me more than any other enemy past St. Kats.

I once played the game with a +80% X-ray laser cannon and got as far as Point Juno. I was depending alot on my NAMI missile launcher at that time.

E5DCM-I921G-7R1E3 - A beta code for some game. Might want to ask me back at it's original site for the correct one though. Better be fast, not that patient here.

I'll be observing from afar.

I see two ways to farm Ventari: (1) Use really good shields with lots of hit points and whenever your shields get low RUN LIKE **** (2) use dyon dust to get ion damage immunity. If you can get a very long range omniweapon you can often kill them without taking any damage by "dancing" at max range. Otherwise you are nothing but a tasty morsel for the Ventari destroyer to eat right up. In the last few games I would say that between Sactuary and Heretic I made most of my money from farming Ventari.
