Is it possible to get both the class V and Volkov?

Yes, but not in every game.

Yes, it is possible in three different ways.

Number one: Go ahead and destroy as many frigates as you want, but lead the Kronosaurus to a friendly station so you don't get the credit for the kill. Then, after you complete enough missions to reach master status, continue doing missions until you reach legend. Because it takes many stations to reach legend through missions alone, and there's almost no way in heck that many will spawn, this way is extremely improbable.

Number two: Destroy two frigates, but hold off on destroying the third until you're master rank. Then, destroy the third during an escort mission and dock with a Korolov. The Kronosaurus will be unleashed, and destroying it will leap you to legend. Alternatively, you can milk a Korolov almost dry of missions, then unleash the Kronosaurus, and leave it behind. It will wait there until you are ready for it, you can do missions in other systems while it waits. This strategy is very tricky and hard to pull off.

Number three: Destroy the Kronosaurus and jump to legend skipping master. Then successfully defed Korolov shipping from attack in the Charon system, and destroy all of the pirate strongholds in the system. There is a 19% chance you will be rewarded with a Class V. This way is close to impossible in both difficulty and very unlikely in probability.
