I've just found a good strategy against the Pteravores...install a Longreach autocannon. I thought it was just designed to take down missiles, as I upgraded from ICX to it after some Ventari ionized it.

But to my pleasant surprise as I tried to guard the Svalbad (spelling?), the autocannon efficiently took down the little critters.

Of course, it did nothing when I destroyed their lair and like fifty all poured out and sucked my fuel dry, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Another solution is to have your autons swarm around you which protect you and then you can kill their ships so they don't come back for you.

Yeah, good advice. While the ptravores act like stupid ships, they are technically missiles. I quite like using my god-mod multi-target autocannon.

I take great amusement from watching the hordes of Pteravores splatter themselves blindly onto the nearby Iocrym stations when I take cover on the other side.

Anything with the acronym IFC you can just point at the hive and mow them down as they come. And the Ion9 if by some miracle you get your hands on that. And if for some reason none of those drop or appear for sale the PK25 should do the job too, though you may need something higher type to kill the station first.

I haven't ever tried it, its not a common item, but IM90 or what ever that multi directional ion cannon would work too no?

Probably not nearly as well. It's got wide gaps, only three shots, and may try to aim at other Pteravore nests in Heretic or other opponents entirely in earlier systems.

I just used the collision exploits myself, or my fusion fire. I even lured some enemy ships into the revenge spawns for extra fun.

The fusion fire punches through many pteravores at once; I didn't try it with my IM90 because I was using the fusion fire to take out the nests.

I can't believe you use a weapon for this mosquito
The better strategy is flying around the Lair and when they die
just destroy it. --- Simple 8-)

Simply going around the lair only attracts them, destroying the lair too soon attracts them. I'm not sure how its so easy of a task.

First, nuke the base so they all come out, then nuke them :D

You should also be able to outrun them, even in the freighter.

Pteravores are pretty easy to deal with if you don't have to defend someone else. Nuke the base then edge up until they start swarming out and run away slowly until they start dieing, repeat until no more spawn.
