Yep. FanFic happens in that magical gap between canon and preposterous.

A CSC has 36 armor segments, all stations have one. Because of this, a CSC has more than 20 times the HP of any station in the game. This should probably indicate to you that IT'S NOT A VALID COMPARISON. Stations != ships. PJ is more heavily armored than any other CW station in the game. From the game: "I'm General Verner and Point Juno is my stronghold." It's the stronghold of an general. Where you meet that general is called "Central Command" It has a bloody fleet guarding it. It's built in a combat zone. Using ALL the facts available, how does one unfair comparison outweigh all the other evidence?including that a CSC can take many times more damage than PJ

First, armor does not really affect the station's hp as much as the structural HP. Also, wouldn't you want a fleet guarding a key research station? and wouldn't said fleet need a commanding officer? The fact that it may have more hp than most commonwealth stations means nothing. As you say, it is built in a war zone, so it would have more armor than a container habitat. Nevertheless, it is very weak structurally. Also, PJ has several conflicts, but if you look it only has a few ares communes in it. Also, if PJ was a high and mighty fortress, wouldn't the commander be willing to stop hiding in a nebula and actually build it where it might do some good? His words saying that it is his fortress means nothing. Many kids build a fortress out of couch cushions, and call it a fortress. Just calling it a fortress does not make it one.

^^ Oh god no, please don't turn this into another Ship-Prices war... x_xAmilir wrote:A CSC has 36 armor segments, all stations have one. Valid point regarding the general...but I think most of us understand it's some kind of fortress. The question really is arising as to what other purposes Point Juno serves, if any.
And at the end of the day as I said before, very possibly there is no other purpose. But it's fun while we're at it!

As for the fact that stations have only one piece of armour, that, along with station-shields should be incorporated into a Suggestion for future editions of Transcendence, as it makes no sense that a giant station as only one plate of armour, as it is wiser to have many overlapping plates of armour -- this would then allow the player to weaken a section of the station's defenses and adds to strategic depth.

I think that there is a field in stations called: Multihull or something. I think that means like a ship different armor sections get weakened and others are fine.

Actually, the multihull attribute means that a station will take less damage from weapons without WMD7. Regardless, stations and ships are still incomparable.
ThePrivateer> It's a major fortress, it's overseeing some of the lamplighter tests, and we don't really know much else. All I wanted to do was prove that PJ is primarily a military installation.
Oh, that bit I mentioned about PJ being a supply base came from here I think: http://neurohack.com/transcendence/expl ... ights.html

Except you can't just make up anything and have good fan fiction. In this case you're falling afoul of not just your plot requiring the captain to violate normal procedures but the lamplighter prototype being hidden in the weapons vault after the battle.ThePrivateer wrote:Thanks Drako!Drako Slyith wrote: Also, nice story Privateer!Except that the lamplighter is a weapon just designed to be a test. I don't think they would have used a weapon not cleared to be safe. Would you start firing with a gun with a twisted barrel?
BTW, prior to the immediate events of that story, I imagine that there was a whole conspiracy over the thing - info was leaked and before anything could be done, the Ares knew the location of the Lamplighter, at Point Juno. In a race against time, the weapon was loaded onto the CSC Europa, a strong warship with protection, and the Europa set out to hide in the Nebulae, awaiting re-inforcements to wipe out the approaching Ares attack.
But there was still a mole somewhere -- the re-inforcements didn't come and the Ares were informed that the weapon had moved, thus allowing them to ambush the CSC Europa. During the fight, outnumbered and overwhelmed, the Europa's commander no doubt made the difficult choice, despite what the techies had told him about it being "only experiminetal", that he would install the weapon in the hopes of protecting the lives of those around him on the ship; but he was wrong, the weapon backfired and destroyed the ship, but incredibly came out unharmed.
-_- See there - good thing with fan fiction -- you can make whatever stuff up that you want!

Ok. Moving AWAY from the epileptic tree for a minute.........
I personally see it as a Fleet Resupply base, and possibly also a repair station for larger ships like the Aquila and Antarctica....it's used to restock stores on the CSCs, and to simplify logistics. When the war was going well for the CW, this worked well. But with the loss of the Europa and growing apathy back in St. katherine's....it's become hard to defend and secure.
I have got a few plans to make 1-2 similar stations crop up in a mod that's only recently taken shape in my mind....but that'd be for a few months away.

My Heart of War mod has several of them crop up randomly in the late game. They work well as a graphic for a military station in the Commonwealth.
