Personally, I think what's worse than not finding a particular armor, is not finding any targeting ROM whatsoever! I've had several games already where none could be found anywhere. Even scoured every system thoroughly but nada. End up having to order one by the time I see the first TP and that sucks!
Armor is usually my last concern. Powerful weapons and shields come first, as having both will help counter having weak armor most often. But if I were to choose any particular armor pre St. K's, it would have to be Duralloy hit with Ablative barrels to defend against all the lasers. But that is a hard armor to find early in the game and it's practically useless after St. K's, as most weapons later on can easily burn right through it. Pity that Duralloy is limited with useage--seems like as soon as you find some, a few systems later it's already outdated...and better, stronger armor can be found.

Haven't found any yet, so...PlayMeNow wrote:The Corporate Trading Post awaits your order, ya know.
I know the feeling. Usually, if I haven't found a targetting ROM by the time I reach St. K's, I'll restart the game. The game is far too annoying to play without it.FAD wrote:Personally, I think what's worse than not finding a particular armor, is not finding any targeting ROM whatsoever!
Speaking of ROMs, is there a use for the autopilot ROM in 0.97a, or is it still as pointless as ever?
It's only good for selling...after you've discovered what it is (used the unknown ROM) and only if you find more afterward.Boris the Cat wrote:Speaking of ROMs, is there a use for the autopilot ROM in 0.97a, or is it still as pointless as ever?
As for assuring that the player can get a targeting ROM every game, what about having one coded in the arena, in the hold of the last ship you go up against--The Tripoli-class destroyer? Or maybe add a harder level ship to beat that will have the ROM? Or, should it remain by chance?

One of the reasons i enjoy the freighter. You start off with a random ROM.
>.<
Even that's not 100% guaranteed. I've played a few games where no Trading Posts were in them. Same with Tinkers, Korolov, BM shipyards, Commonwealth fortresses... But you're right, the search is half the fun.OddBob wrote:Besides, your guaranteed ROM is waiting for you already at a Trading Post.
But since I use omni weapons, those targeting ROM's are necessary else I wouldn't be able to hit the broad side of a Sung Citadal

Usual fair.
Four segments of Dwarg Holochroal.
Decent reactor at the moment (250MW)
A Fichikai Omni Green Blaster (Weapons awesome! <3)
A Quinlong Archcannon (I actually found one this time round)
Two patch spiders.
Im still looking for an ICX, and Id like to try out Transuranic Armor this time around and treat them with Orthosteel Nano's

Hmmm, funny how games turn out on different computers. I often find my first ICX before St. K's. The RNG is indeed a fickle god

>.<
These are staples in every game that I'll buy if not yet found in loot:
Laser Collimator/Omni-Turbolaser
Patch Spider
ICX
CPU
Invincible-Class shield
Cnidocyst cannon/shells
Fusionfire "Wow"itzer
Omni Ion blaster
Thrusters (each level as they're found)
Longzu's
Holocroal armor
Jump drive
Random items:
Target/visual ROM's
All armor enhancer barrels (for better armor sell/profit)
All shield enhancements for the same reason with the barrels
All helium3 fuel rods to sell for profit at the chill farms
All illegals to sell for profit
All med-ables to donate
CPU cubes (5care, 7care, Scramble)
All lvl 4+ ore's to sell for rins (credits are plentiful at this point)
Using the freighter makes for bigger profits.

When I donated to one of the CSC (What with the oodles of medical supplies), they upped my rank and they gave me a Plasma Shield Generator. Im not too fond of it though, goes down too easily, so I believe Ill switch back to the Mammoth 50MW deflector for now.

Ill stick with it a bit longer.PlayMeNow wrote:Keep plasma 'till you get a 100 MW. Just get used to hit & run tactics & avoid large battles.
Also, im looking for a blasting or explosive weapon of some kind.
Is the Ares Micronuke cannon or w/e good? I found a functioning one.
