I'm working on adding a whole bunch of new stellar types, including many variations of the same types (ie, there will be different red giants for example). I also plan on giving them some subtle animations later on.

You should add a black hole system. If you go over the black hole, the player just disappears
And a quasar
Everything in the system is irradiated every few seconds

--- Lore stuff/Frontier-Fringe Teaser ---
The quarantine zone was only recently established; a generous buffer had been set up in order to contain all of humanity and its descendents.
While the Iocrym did miss some, leaving them stranded outside of the quarantine zone, what is of more interest at the moment, is what else got trapped inside.
The quarantine zone is a fairly large place; and although many of the core systems around Sol and the commonwealth have been explored, there are many systems that have been left unexplored. Others are under active exploration - Myriad things have been encountered out here, from entire systems engulfed in a hazardous protostar forming nebula with rare and exotic ores discovered by Canis Industries, a seemingly benign alien lifeform discovered by the Taikon Corporation, to the rumored 'Predators', a race so powerful and vicious they have been able to destroy entire fleets of Ares ships sent to destroy them. Even rumors of the CSC Australia, raised from the dead, roaming the stars in search of revenge against the Ares, have surfaced in recent years.
From the unconfirmed, likely exaggerated rumors, to the cold hard scientific discoveries, the Frontier and the Fringe are two places you'll want to explore.
If you can survive it.
--- Announcement ---
I'm actually going to try to get off my lazy bum & work on cleaning out all the cruft in the files & getting things marginally working (As in, not crashing... too much), so that sometime before 2012 (Hopefully) I can open up the development in a more opensource manner, allowing the scripting of TSB to speed up. [Note, my originally-created (ie, not from other sources like george) resources are still CC-BY-NC-ND unless otherwise specified]

I'll still be maintaining creative control as well, just fyi
So no, no uberweapon of doom in TSB, or anything else that would be silly or not fit or just completely go off in a direction I'm really not aiming for. But if you have a legitimate idea, I'd be more than glad to give it a look over.

Hey, this may have been discussed, but is this available for download yet? Some posts lead me to believe it is and some don't. I checked devDB and can't find out.

Not TSB in its new version; there are very, very old versions of TX2 still up for download, but they don't work on anything except for .99c AFAIK

Stop making an intergalactic Australia!

Although to be a truly accurate australia, there'd be kiler spide-...wait, pteravores.....
The predators would still need to go "Baaa" and have wool, however.
I'm looking forward to this, when it eventually grinds out of development hell.

The real reason the Australia got destroyed: they were all upside down and got light headed, so the gunners couldn't concentrate on targets.Shrike wrote:

but in space there is no upside-down
and anyway they /would/ have made the ares stop for a moment to wonder why there was a upside down CSC sitting there which would have given the crew a few moments to shoot them
the REAL reason it got destroyed is that there was a rugby match on between the All Blacks and Wallabies (which the AB's win FYI) and there were to busy watching

But what if their gravity generators had them standing on the ceiling? They couldn't reach the gun controlssdw195 wrote:but in space there is no upside-down![]()

Artificial gravity is for stations and liners. Warships must concern themselves with battle damage and it is far better to have no gravity going into combat than to have gravity and lose it unexpectedly. It might be impossible to operate the flight deck itself without synthetic gravity, but the bridge, gun stations, and lower decks should have it powered down for safety during combat.

So you have people and objects floating around, distracting the gunners? But I guess if everything was locked down before the gravity went down, then it wouldn't be a problem.

This is precisely why you don't want gravity. If you shut it off as part of going to battle readiness you can check the tie downs before starting to take battle damage. Better still if your default state is null gravity, since then your stuff is already tied down all the time.Drako Slyith wrote:But I guess if everything was locked down before the gravity went down, then it wouldn't be a problem.
Movement and certain elements of maintenance can be faster in null gravity as well, pretty much anything that involves moving large masses like missiles and crewmembers and replacement armor plates for damaged gunships. Most in combat activities that are helped by gravity can be accomplished just as well with magnetic boots and tool handles and ferrous deck and wall plates.

True but have you ever tried drinking water in 0 gravity? It doesn't work well. On a ship that size, using an inefficient feeding and drinking system would be a logistics nightmare. Most activities outside of combat are impossible without gravity. Also consider that without gravity human's muscles rapidly degrade. With no gravity, it would be very, very hard to get the exercise necessary to keep everyone from becoming too weak to actually do anything.
