Ship Formation

When flying and shooting, instead of flying willy-nilly, have multiple ships of the same sovereign sync up their movements together so they form up and don't risk shooting each other, and can bring all their weaponry to bear instead of only the first two or three because everyone else is behind them. That way not only enemies but also allies (autons and recruitables, secondary ships via mods) can remain with you without you shooting them because it's just a cloud of friendlies floating around you haphazardly, and the enemy can fire properly without hitting their own.
You can do this by commanding your wingmen to fire in formation, although it isn't very useful (they only fire in a straight line). Real formations would be useful and would increase survivability for everyone.

Yeah, the only enemies who fly in formations are the CW, ranx, xenos, Ares(in PJ), and... wait... that's it. everybody else just flies stupid. I'd like to see a corporate shipyard with wings of Corp. enforcers leading Manticores and IAVs.
(actually, I want to see Corp. enforcers fighting manticores, leading Gargoyle-class fighters; Makayev vs. Rasiermesser style.)
Just in general, More baddies need to fly in formation.

Fly in formation and not shoot stupidly, aye.
Its like every movie ever with ancient battles. Everyone's nicely in formation, ready to go into battle, then as soon as they contact the other army, they break formation. And I'm all like "wtf are you people doing?" But they always win anyway so it's okay.

At least those people have the benefit of three dimensions to move and fire in. x_x

It would be nice to just have shots ignore allied units for all non-player ships and assume they're firing above/below the location of the other allied ships in formation, really.
Yes! Friendly fire is the biggest problem with non-formations.Amariithynar wrote:It would be nice to just have shots ignore allied units for all non-player ships and assume they're firing above/below the location of the other allied ships in formation, really.
