Part I: Questions on Factions

Blargh, missed these on IRC day, these questions apply to part 1 only:
Could we get a brief glimpse at motivations and backstory for the short or non-existent faction entries in the wiki? As a bonus for people who are imagining a typical citizen of a given faction, particularly for the more alien sounding ones, what is the usual name like?

Finally, can we assume that there is a vast outer-arm Milky Way system of stargates that include the stargates the player uses in part 1? Would be nice if we could get a napkin sketch of the spheres of influence of each faction presented in part 1, that is, if the latter is true.
