I was browsing Deviantart for some stock space images to use as a base intro image for the mod I am working on, when I stumbled into the Resources & Stock Images / 3D Models section.... Here's a few models I'd love to see converted for use in Transcendence if possible. At the very least, perhaps this thread could be used as a place to post links to 3D Models usable in Transcendence. I may even try myself someday (though my experience in that area is nil), but here are the links in case anyone else wants to try (or at least determine if they are useable). :) Except for the last one, they are all from Star Trek, but I think the first two especially would fit in well in Transcendence.

Space Station Regula One (from Wrath Of Khan, would make an excellent science station):

Orbital Office Complex (this one is also from Star Trek, but I don't recognize it):

Earth Spacedock (from ST3: The Search For Spock):

TOS Tactical Fighter (a small Star Trek fighter craft based on the original series):

Klingon K't'inga Class Cruiser (this one is very nicely done):

USS Reliant (Miranda-class):
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/ ... r#/d3egps6

Starbase K-7 (from TOS):
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/ ... 2#/d3eg9fe

And here's an untextured but low poly Imperial Star Destroyer:

There were numerous other Star Trek ship models as well, but not worth mentioning.

Assuming we can get those people to give us permission, I mean we have several DA people on the forum. :P So I mean its worth a shot. We can try to add them to Transcendence, though unofficially of course.

Here's another site with a nice selection of models from Star Trek, Star Wars, and other sci-fi:

OK, I've decided to try turning those ships/stations in the first post into Trans-graphics myself. The only problem is that they are all in the .max format and there is no way to convert .max to .obj without actually owning 3d Max. Since I cannot afford that program, I need someone else to convert them to .obj format for me. Anyone who helps will get their name in my mod's credits. So, if there are any volunteers, here again are the links (in order of preference):

Space Station Regula One (from Wrath Of Khan, would make an excellent science station):
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/ ... 4#/d3jcpat

Klingon K't'inga Class Cruiser (this one is very nicely done):
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/ ... 4#/d49o76e

USS Reliant (Miranda-class):
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/ ... r#/d3egps6

TOS Tactical Fighter (a small Star Trek fighter craft based on the original series):
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/ ... p#/d21cuj3

Earth Spacedock (from ST3: The Search For Spock):
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/ ... 2#/d3jcqp8

Orbital Office Complex (this one is also from Star Trek, but I don't recognize it):
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/ ... 4#/d40fe4z

Starbase K-7 (from TOS):
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/ ... 2#/d3eg9fe

Note: Those models are all from the same person, and the included readmes indicate that they are freely usable for whatever as long as credit is given.

I think there is someone here who owns 3D Max. Don't know who.

Check IRC. I know for certain that Djohaal has it, but he's at uni right now and comes on intermittently- he also has work for Sandbox to do.

I have 3DS Max and I'm converting those files right now. Here's the Space Station Regula One, for starters. I've included the textures for your convenience. I was going to confirm that the conversion was successful by opening the OBJ in Milkshape but it's too large, so let me know if it's screwed up. In fact, please do let me know before I convert the rest.

Thanks. I'm downloading it to my flash drive now, and will check it out when I get home. Sorry for the late response. I didn't have much internet time over the weekend. :(

Dang. Based on the screenshot for the model, I'd assumed the textures were already applied, but it seems they are not. Well, I'm able to load the model in Wings3d now, but it will take me a while to figure out how to texture it.

Actually, the textures were applied when I opened the .max file, but I guess I botched something up when exporting it. I've never been able to export OBJs from 3DS Max with their textures. I don't know why.... Then again, I hardly use 3DS Max at all. If I could import these into Lightwave or Milkshape, I would.

I just asked one of my friends who uses Wings about texturing. He had this to say. I hope it helps:
you select something, right click, UV Mapping
you choose your mapping options
Choose a mapping method
then use an image for it
then play around with it

No worries. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. It'll give me something to do when I get bored of scripting. :) Thanks for your help.

Update: I was able to get the TOS Tactical fighter into Milkshape by exporting the .max as a .3ds, but parts of the model are flipped around or in wrong positions. I will be able to rearrange everything and export it as an OBJ with textures. More complex models like the Regula space station don't get exported completely because Milkshape whines when there are too many polygons, so for now I'll do what I can.

Cool. It turns out my computer is so outdated it doesn't have enough ram to load the Regula Station so I can only play with it on the library's computers. :) So I haven't really made any progress on it yet. I have been able to load a smaller model on my computer though so it's not completely useless. :)
