To play the game itself is not much, but figuring out HOW to do as your told is another thing: there is nothing in the help or on the site that tells you anything: which is why I decided to run my fingers in this topic : and play these extremely LOOOOOOOOOOOONG games ( single player, the reason I came to Transcendence was that it was available Offline : Internet not associated with GCI in much of Alaska is very expensive and I moved outside of a GCI service area.
( I like Imploder or 7Zip, but have a copy of WinZip : I only use WinZip to zip files for upload, the other two deal with things i get )
Once Unzipped, the .Exe is in the folder with the .SCN files : I am not skilled in these file types so I cannot begin to understand them, so do not bother to ask me about that
Anyway: load a game : select an Empire name, gender : I have been learning the Rogue and that has usually started out with 2 friendly planets.
According to the Help File you need to convince your friendly planets to output as many ships as possible before the Rogues arrive.
click on the planet, then go to the menu to select World : designate the planet as you think best or leave it as is : I have found that Independent planets put out a good deal varieties but they take forever to gear up to full production : Base Planets are a little bit faster.
Import/Export Orders : I have been pushing my planets full tilt : 500 on Trillium, 200 on supplies, as 200 on Metal and chemicals ( not that it would matter, the planet either can push it or it don't, but usually I have seen good results ).
As you collect a fleet on each planet, deploy them ( click the planet : Fleet : Deploy ): try to build up and abort fleets to make a HUGE one : if your lucky you can have something worthy of fighting the Rogues when they arrive.
(( recently I lost a planet to the Rogues and after a constant battle of deploying fleets, firing LAMs and being stressed by the urgency to hold them back I did manage to save the HomeWorld and then take the Fortress : then reclaim the Once friendly planet and start an empire......but it is not always going to go that way, one game I got knocked off for Not producing enough ships and never once saw the Rogues. ))
Now, in the start, you have Trillium : and it is not much of a concern, but later it will be. a planet can put out ships like crazy but have no Fuel for the ships to do more then deploy. Around those points I have built Industrial Complexes , a Royal Pain of a station, but if you watch them like a Hawk and stay on the supply routes for them they can fuel your empire well.
everything in the game relies on point and click: and Enter ( or the OK button ) to do anything with a planet, fleet you need to click on them. deploying fleets is easy enough now, alot of fast fingers on the arrow keys to select everything then decide if the fleet gets transports/ cargo : the reason i say this part is because as your Empire gets rolling you will Not want to send out troops or fighters , you will want Transports and cargo. on a fuel supply route for close stations, 100 to 500 fuel cargo is plenty, the further the station the more stuff you want to send at once which means the more ships you want to use : if you deploy your transports the resulting troops recruitment will just start building on that station because there are no transports to take them off : I deal with that " later " by massing transports just for collecting troops and send them to the Command base / Fortress or just drop them on fleets sitting idle or waiting to attack ( if they are on the fleets they do not require supplies, fleets sitting idle and doing nothing do not require fuel or supplies : but once you want them to do something, you need to get them more fuel ). Supplies are important to planets and base stations like the Fortress / command base or Industrial Complex.....you have got to get them food or they will turn hungry and hostile.
Chemicals and Metals are for building ships and defenses : planetary defenses are good, but so far as a single player in Rogue I have not seen a need to let a station other then the mobile command base or fortress to actually have defenses once the Rogue Fortress is under my control ( because I have not been attacked by anything after that one battle )
Planet types : there are several but what the classification mean I am not sure or , just simply do not know : there was a mention of a " water world " i remember but the game does not tell you much as you go : a planet class "L" bites on Agriculture, so they get to build ships then turn into universities.
Desert , underground and Barren make good ship bases : Now you can select a few base types like " transport base " and that will be the most of what they produce : but originally I had an experience where the designation ran opposite and the planet did not produce that type.. but not since.
Hostile Life Planets : regardless of what you do the Natives are restless : but it is a population control as far as i can tell , no big deal.
I have one that is doing great, recruits about 20 Infantry a year, does Agriculture now : started out doing ships since they were loving it by the time I found them : then turned them to Ag to chill them out on bothering me after i took that area of planets.
I have locked onto the Industrial Complexes as Trillium Mines , annoying until they hit 100% with plenty of food, constantly pulling Infantry off the station : but as an independent station they can replicate a good productive planet. I have set some planets to Trillium Mines, but they were not as good as the Complexes for production, but they were less stressful to monitor.
Outposts, great spot to stash troops and ships, bad idea if you want mobile : command bases and fortresses are mobile. you can move more fleets on these with less fuel, it is very sweet.
