Ok, so between some paid side jobs, I'm beginning to dabble in this & wyvera again. Don't expect anything new for now though, I'm mostly going to go through and fix all the weapon positions now that we have proper weapon positioning as of 1.07, provided my attention span holds out.

hey wolfy.. i was looking for some nice mods last night and came across your wyvera mod.. must say a big thanks for putting such hard work into it. theres lots of coding done in this mod, probably the most for a single playership its a great concept. there are a few not exactly bugs just duplicate items when feeding show up. i'll post the screenshots if needed.
also it would be great if you could have an experience bar of sorts to show how much more for the next level up.. would be a nice idea i think.
thanks for the awesome mod :D

Since I was going to completely remake the wyvera mod using the new features implemented over recent releases, bug reports for that old version won't really help. Thanks for the offer though.

hey wolfy one small request if you ever get back to working with the wyvera.. can you make it so that we can pilot other ships without losing the ability to pilot the wyvera again?
its bugging when you're a good few hours into the game and decide you need to get a cargo ship drone to carry all your loot and decide to upgrade its shields but then u cant go back to piloting the wyvera.. :( is there any way around this? like buying an ai controller or something? or is it possible to just install some ai device on the wyvera that lets you use it as a drone?
any help here would be awesome!

ps. thanks for making the wyvera ship its awesome!

That is a bug with the other mod it seems, where it is not allowing you to switch back.

If ship changing problems is due to combining Playership Drones and the Wyvera (or any other custom ship), it is because the custom ships lack the docking ports and various additional data needed by Playership Drones. In Playership Drones, I made a playable copy of every ship (type) found in the standard game. I have not done so for ships from any mod. I would need to make a customized copy of the modded ship to make it compatible with Playership Drones. This is why the player gets a warning when he tries to change ships if the source ship is not one supported by Playership Drones.

I will have a similar problem with linkedFire weapons in soon to be released Playership Drones v4. Linked fire support will only work with standard weapons and those from my mods.
Download and Play in 1.9 beta 1...
Drake Technologies (Alpha): More hardware for combat in parts 1 and 2!
Star Castle Arcade: Play a classic arcade game adventure, with or without more features (like powerups)!
Playership Drones: Buy or restore exotic ships to command!

Other playable mods from 1.8 and 1.7, waiting to be updated...
Godmode v3 (WIP): Dev/cheat tool compatible with D&O parts 1 or 2.

The playership drone series is awesome, I assume:
I am hooked on the first version and think it treason to upgrade in front of my Antares :)
I mean really : this ship was part of the series, I got it as a drone and when the self upgrade codes came out I tried it on my Antares....it killed me when it looted a Fracture Cannon, then came back to me , hostiles were attacking me, the drone tried to defend me but the drones did not have " no friendly fire " settings at the time ...

I enjoy the original so much, I have never unzipped the newer version .... but I am a horrible pilot, what can i say :)
Flying Irresponsibly In Eridani......

I don't like to kill pirates in cold blood ..I do it.. but I don't like it..

If you were referring to TSB, its not finished yet; still in development (currently on hiatus while I do some work on another mod, which in some sense is a testbed for a number of features I will be implementing in TSB)

There is however a download of the xmls on source forge, and the resources pack on dropbox, links listed earlier in the thread.

Ooook, so this spring break, after I finish the finals for this quarter, I shall be investing some time into a topology-framework generating program. Hopefully. (aka, if I dont get swamped with family stuff) - this will basically allow me to generate all the topological requirements (including the multi-gate system types, maybe even system type param editing directly). Others are welcome to use it once the program is actually completed and working and thus released. As with my recent programs, it will be open-sourced.

I will certainly be rather interested in using this. ^_^

So the program is still being piddled around with; I've got a lot of the foundation down, most of what is now needed is coming up with a T-XML compatible parser and figuring out how to interact with the canvas.

On another note, I am getting back into gear making ships.

Just a simple one to start with for now, as I'm sleepy and did this one on the fly (didn't make any pre-planning concept art)

Rean Battleship

This venerable design was the pinnacle of the coalition fleets during the syrtian war. Although they never saw action in the war under the coalition's flag - the commonwealth had a number - they were kept in service, continually refitted and upgraded to new standards until the development of the Komodo battleship, which replaced it. The remaining ships and their designs were traded to the Rean Empire, minus their weapons and armor, which were re-allocated to other Coalition ships. Since then, the Rean Empire has continued to use them actively (as well as constructing new ones), capable of repelling Charon Frigates and even Tripoli, which no other ship in the Rean fleet can match - at least, not in any cost-effective sense. The ship sports numerous turret emplacements, point defense, shields, as well as a missile launcher. It is large and relatively slow however, and so it is rarely deployed very far beyond the Rean defense perimeter (which they defend primarily against the charon pirates and marauders), leaving those tasks to its lighter cousins.

ImageImageImageImage

[Also remember, the Charon of TSB will have a significantly tougher high-end, though the player who is just starting out isn't going to be wandering into them right off the bat or anything like that]

Ok, I'm pretty sure I missed some factions, and I have yet to put in background info for the vast majority of factions, and I may have made a few errors, buuuut anyways...

[This is an update to an older post on page 27 (or was it 26?)]

Regions overview

Borderlands: The borderlands are a fairly unpopulated region. Theoretically, the commonwealth lays claim to these systems, while they actually completely neglect the backwater that is the Borderlands. The Borderlands are an impoverished region with sparse, low-grade ore at best, and very high poverty levels. Crime runs rampant in this neck of the woods, given neither the commonwealth nor the corporations care enough to stamp it out, and its not infrequent for entire systems to rebel and form small separatist groups. Some of the more successful movements have included the Elronian Confederacy, which have been able to hold their own against the Centauri Warlords, charon pirates and other minor powers living in the power vacuum that exists there, and the Rean Empire, a moderately sized (For a Borderlands state) empire which has done as well for itself as it has if only because of funding from the Coalition, allowing them to expand into the more resource rich lands of the Frontier.

New Beyond: The heart of the commonwealth. The New Beyond is the economic and political center of the commonwealth, comprising the majority of its population, as well as the economic center for the Corporate Hierarchy (though the latter is still headquartered on Earth). The New Beyond has a well fortified perimeter to the sides of the Ungoverned regions. There are however, several anomalies in the New Beyond. The first of which is a quarantined branch of the stargate network, comprising 4 systems, closed off by corporate forces. The systems beyond contain the wyvera. There is also a string of systems pointing to st.kathrines controlled by the Ares, as a result of a nearly successful strike at the commonwealth's capital. The Ares controlled systems have mostly been reclaimed since the attack, however, a single stronghold remains. This system has been quarantined with some of the most powerful defenses, however, attempts to retake the system so far have all failed, given the concentration of ares forces within. No attacks from either side have been launched in the last several years, outside of the occasional scouts.

Ungoverned Regions: The name is a misnomer really, despite being the official term accepted in the Commonwealth. The name is a blanket term for a large mass of war-torn systems governed by a wide array of forces, for the most part, all fighting against each other. Many of the combatants don't even lie within the boundaries of the contested region, such as the Commonwealth and the Ranx. These are a fairly resource rich land, and many groups are looking to get their hands on it. The few "indigenous" (original colonists) peoples have lost control over the region. (Originally this region was dominated by the Hauri, until their fall at the hands of the Sung.)

Frontier: This is a large section of the quarantine zone which only the Rean Federation, Solarites, and the Coalition of United Earth Colonies have made any major effort to settle. Although others, including the Ansabi, Domain, and Ringers, have a few population centers here, none of them have a significant percentage of their population living in the Frontier. Canis Industries is also the major corporation dominating the area, much like the Hierarchy members dominate commerce in the New Beyond. The Frontier has a fair number of poorly explored systems, as well as some who's contents are unknown. The Frontier has only 2 major powers, the mysterious and zealotic Solarites who fled there after their failed invasion of earth, and the Coalition, who seceded during the late days of the syrtian war, when it was clear that the commonwealth had no intent of protecting either them. Canis Industries also has its headquarters based in the Frontier, away from the prying eyes of the Hierarchy. Lastly, the Reans also have a stake in the land as well, using it as their now-primary source of income in their fight against the Elronians, Centauri and Urak.

The Fringe: This is a region populated mainly by neohumans, with a massive amount of power divisions even here. Despite its name, the Fringe is actually a very large region of space, encompassing the Ares, the Domain, the Ansabi, the Ringers, the Teratons, and the two non-neohuman factions based in there, the Ranx and the Luminous. The Commonwealth also maintains a token force present, however, many of the commonwealth's original assets in the region seceded and formed the Ranx Empire.

Old Earthspace: This region has seen its fair share of wars in the past several centuries. Old Earthspace - commonly referred to as just Earthspace, is the region immediately surrounding Sol in terms of links along the stargate network - There are a few systems within Old Earthspace's regions that are technically part of the Borderlands because of an anomaly in the gate system. Old Earthspace is nolonger really central to human affairs, but it does have Earth, home of the Hierarchy, and which does draw a fair number of tourists. There hasn't been any major war fought in the region in some time, giving the region a decent level of stability which not even the New Beyond shares. However, there are few major defenses, aside from a single major military installation in Earth's orbit, though this aging facility has certainly seen better days.

TSB factions overview

NOTE: Alignments are /to the player/ by default. Alignments can change during the game based on the player's actions!

NOTE: Interfactional alignments can change based on in-game events! (Even if the player is /not involved/). Unwinnable sessions will be impossible however (I started to write a wall of text explaining exactly how the mechanics work, but then I decided not to. I will explain all that at a later date.)

NOTE: Upper technology level is determined ONLY by the maximum tier weapon that the faction's ships use or that they are capable of making

Key:
Regional Influence:
* Has a presence here, but hold no effective political weight
** Has some colonies and military support, but no serious commitment or influence
*** Has a moderate amount of settlement, and carries some weight on the regional politics
**** A regional power, often has most of their population in this region.
***** A regional superpower, often completely dominates regional politics (Only 1 per region)

Technology: (listed as Common/Highest, with the highest tier WEAPON FAMILY in parens)
* Laser/Kinetic
** Particle/Blast
*** Ion/Thermo
**** Positron/Plasma
***** Antimatter/Nano
****** Graviton/Singularity
******* Dark Fire/Dark Acid
******** Dark Lightning/Dark Steel

Firepower: (With regards to their heaviest conventional weapons)
* Minimal defenses
** Anti-gunship
*** Anti-Capship
**** Anti-Station

Fleet Composition: (Does not imply having an actual military; this is actually more about ship type use in their fleets)
* No ships
** No military (civilian ships & guards only; really low-quality gunships also count here)
*** Small (gunships, very few or no capships OR singular capship type)
**** Moderate (uses most classes of ships except the highest capship tiers, with rare exceptions)
***** Large (Full fleet, may have support stations)

Special Enemies:
Non-Aggressive – Officially in a state of war, but neither side actively aggresses the other.
Cold War – No official state of war, but political tensions run extremely high
Primary – The primary focus of this state's war efforts.

Ok, I re-rendered a bunch of ships, and made some new ones. Also I don't think I ever gave the CI ships an intro post.

Ares battlecarrier re-render for transparency support and smoothness (its a battlecarrier, not a full carrier; george is making a full carrier down the line apparently)

Domain Freighter (an unmanned freighter drone used by the Domain; it has simple defenses and isn't very threatening. They are rarely ever alone though, often traveling in groups and escorted by combat drones)

Domain Node-Ship (The Domain's version of a command ship.)
ImageImageImageImage

Domain Sub-Node
Image

Domain Primary Node
Image

Canis industries Fennec Auton (A civilian-rated high-end combat auton)
ImageImageImageImage

CI Husky Heavy/Armored Freighter (A heavily armored and decently armed freighter used by CI in their operations in the Frontier. It is also commercially available, but is generally expensive. Some privately operated ones can be seen in the Frontier, Fringe and Ungoverned Territories; using them in the relative safety of the NewBeyond would be a waste of their abilities)
ImageImageImageImage

CI Shiba Yacht (A fancy yacht with some pretty good speed behind it. Favored by the rich of the coalition, and also seen in the commonwealth as well.)
ImageImageImageImage

CI Coyote Gunship (A fast and capable gunship used heavily by CI in the defense of their assets, though it is also commercially available in both mil-spec and civilian versions.)
