Meaning of "Version" in Modding?

In moding where you put the credits and stuff, what is the "version=" for? is it for the mod's version, or the Trans version?? :?:

Location: Hmm... I'm confused. Anybody have a starmap to the Core?

Transcendence version. Use 1.01 as a default if you don't know what to do. That works.

using 1.01 never works for me though! :? i always use 0.99 because if I use anything higher, it says "Incompatible Version" upon loading :( I run 1.08b though...

currently there are only 2 valid strings for version: 1.01 for Transcendence 1.01 mods and 1.1 for any beta version after that (currently 1.02-1.08b)

mmhh, this information should probably go to the wiki too.

Unless anyone out there is still modding 0.99c. Which I doubt. :P

Whenever I try using 1.01 or 1.1 and load up the mod, it crashes Trans with a warning saying that it's an incompatible version.... Only 0.99 works for me :( any ideas why?
