a money pit would be nice for the game.
A nice one would be one where you could enhance your ship in small ways.
Such as slightly faster turning, +5 cargo space or +1 device slot. These should be very expensive so if someone wants to make tons of money they can but they don't need to.
what other money pits would you like to see?
ship enhancements and other money pits

Crying is not a proper retort!
I don't think that altering a ships device slots is possible during game play in the current source code...unless there's a function I'm not aware of. George could verify this.
Reason I say this is because I tried altering the amount of slots after saving game/exiting game/editing XML/reload game. No new slots. But altering speed/turn rate, cargo hold, weapon settings, shield settings and armor settings are possible. Found that out during mod testing in game.

You can always "force" a new device in.
I don't think (shpInstallDevice) really cares if the ship has too many devices. (shpCanInstallDevice) checks that...
Of course your device count will exceed your limit at that point, and you will need to uninstall two device before installing any other devices normally.

1. University stations.
Donate some obscene amount to the station and get a College named after you.
2. Philanthropy Rank
build it up by donations to the poor (like the refugees you find living in cargo containers). Wouldn't do anything for you in terms of game play, just a feather in the cap.
EDIT - either of those could add points to your final score as an enticement to do them.

any money pit needs to have something good about it or no one would use it. Buying points may work as an option along with other money pits. Several money pits would work better than one but they must do seperate things.
like the Philanthropy Rank could make your donations to Dominia more effective.

Exactly, and that's why I brought that up in hopes that it wouldn't be overlooked.Betelgeuse wrote:thats why this isn't in shipyards but brainstorms
I really like the idea of being able to alter the amount of device slots. And naturally, it should come with a price. I'd gladly trade in some tonnage of cargo hold to make room for another device. Freighter, that is.
