What do you think would help make the different from game to game?
Personally I think the gameplay is fine but we need more variety in the game from person to person and from game to game.
variety

I think there should be new and different sets of gear. As of now, once you're close to the end of the game, and maybe even before that, you've got a set of devices, shields, and weapons that you'll use for the remainder. I hope the next version features more variety in higher level gear, so if you can't get the QAC, you don't have to worry.
Although it's been suggested so many times, I think the ability to purchase new ships from shipyards would add a whole new layer to the game. That would surely add variety.

I think that gets my vote too as the number one thing to add to increase variety.Sponge wrote:Although it's been suggested so many times, I think the ability to purchase new ships from shipyards would add a whole new layer to the game. That would surely add variety.

how would we make new weapons that do not overshadow or be overshadowed by the old stuff?
Thats my problem with just adding new items using the current system adding very little variety for a lot of thought and work. Every item added delutes the item pool making it have even less of an impact.

Well, building up from the idea of having the ability to switch ships ingame, you could simple do the following:
weapons have a size class
ships have a size class
When the Ship's too small, you can't plug in the big gun's. I'm hardpressed to imagine the fighter craft with the ion beam cannon etc.
I think that would make very much sense.
Another thing that crossed my mind:
A large ship with multiple weapon-turrets, that each cover a different angle. The ship itself is to bulky to turn fast (internal statics and stuff, you know. Engineering
). Depending where your enemy is the turret activates and shoots. Could be fun in that you have different weapon systems installed, so with your left you have ion, with your right heat - I guess you get the idea.
Probably easiest to do if there were mouse-aim. *cough* *hinthint*
