This is a 100MW challenge and a civie challange entry. Note that there was some savescumming with the CSC antarctica mission which I sorely needed to defeat the Iocrym.

More when I have time...

Congrats!

I'll have to try this myself one day.

A couple ideas regarding how such a game should be played for best results.

Priority 1. Get X-ray and collimator (main and only weapon.)

Priority 2. Get good armor therefore do not use the Sapphire (carbide carapace, orthosteel, or Tarsus Plate for the wolfen, Holochrol for the freighter (I believe)).

Priority 3. Get Ion reflect crystal and Trenton generator (unless you are the freighter and have holochrol in which case positron reflect would be a good choice).

Use ICX, Collimator, Domina Strengthen, and missiles (I used White Strelkas) to defeat Aquillias in defense of the Antarctica to receive mission-critical gem.

Use EMP cannon, 1M/i autons, Jumpdrive, ICX, Plasma cannon, and gem to defeat Iocrym. S500 should be your shield. +150 if possible. The green things in heretic are quite irritating (and irridating) without. Try to jump close to the planet so you can hide on it to use the gem.

All alien equipment is military I believe. So avoid that. Also the 250MW and 500MW reactor.

I skipped the EMP cannon and it took me a while to figure out the Antarctica. For purposes of the challenge I actually only made it to Denebola (killed by Aquilas). You need the EMP cannon in case the Iocrym is stunned on the planet that you should be hiding on.

Plasma cannon is military, and the saphire can use carbide carapace

Died once vs the Iocrym... so near yet so far...

At least I didnt need savescumming 8-)

The civvie challenge winds up being good for speed runs as well, since you dont need to hang around for the heavy duty weapons.

BTW, when folks say "you can kill the Iocrym with the Absolution Cannon" do they actually mean that, or "you can kill the Iocrym with the Absolution Cannon, plus a whole bunch of other stuff"? I had to pack 2 hasted and 1 +80% AC in order to get through the shields... Maybe with a whole bunch of shieldsdown hacks?

Normal loadout:
Shiriken neutron blaster
EMP cannon (if I cant dish out much damage, then they can *^&% well wait until I get around to killing em)
Omni particle
Superconducting Shield
90hp Armour
Jumpdrive
Fusion drive

Iocrym loadout:
(round 1- hang around till it runs out of ammo)
Swap the fusion drive for a missile defence turrent
(round 2- actual battle)
Swap out the fusion drive and change the weapons to:
3x Absolution Cannon
Omni Particle (otherwise the things attention deficit disorder kicks in while I try to line up a decent attack run...)

Of course, "round 1" actually consisted of several attempts as I would try increasing numbers of Penitent Cannons, but since they didnt do any good, I figured they arent the relevant part of the loadout...

Edit: Nearly forgot- add 150MW reactor to that loadout...

Before it was made unfindable, I found exactly one.

Um...no longer randomly generated? I could swear I looted one from a ranx fortress not three games ago...900MW, insanely low HP?

X-ray lasers are very rare. Some games you'll find none, sometimes just one, sometimes three or four. Bushido merchants carry them, so if you're lucky enough to have one of those, your chances increase greatly. If you find one close enough to st.k's, ordering from a trading post is well worth the money. X-ray lasers are great fuel savers.

the Ranx fortress has a 20% chance of one level nine major item, the Lazarus is level ten. thors used to sell them, but not anymore. If you found a lazarus in a fortress it was a modded game.

Eh, well, I found one as loot somewhere. And no, it wasn't modded.

Dual Flesner is better than the x-ray I believe. I haven't compared the two that closely, but it seems to mince enemies faster. You can also use it to disintigrate wrecks 8)
