Stuff has been a bit delayed by us & George working on fixing a strange multiverse bug first. This is the one that is causing libraries not to be downloaded (sometimes) for large expansions with many libraries like TSB

I agree about VoTG as well. I have traveled at least half of all human space. I am booooored. :)

Yeah, I've been following this game for a long time and I yearn for the Vault of The Galaxy update to come soon.

A workaround has been identified for the library download bug, but additional issues with multiverse have been discovered (Ex, in some cases not downloading updated versions of libraries even though they are available, if an old version is still in your collections folder)

Also, additional core changes are happening to the game engine as well (primarily new features and fixes for projectiles), but unfortunately this has resulted in the first planned preview version being delayed in order to get those fixes & new content using those fixes and features in as well.

As for VotG, unfortunately we have no way to expedite that, as that is entirely in george's hands.

However, there will be some more formal announcements coming soonish (april maybe?) about some new base game development that is getting started! The development will be happening publicly on github, so anyone can help contribute to it too.

Well, here is a nitty-gritty update on the sandbox adventure for anyone interested in seeing game-code sausage being manufactured:
  • NOTE: the balance changes in this adventure are currently exclusive to this adventure (unless someone makes a mod for Stars of the Pilgrim cross-linking the sandbox adventure's library that contains the overwrites). The hope is for successful experiments to be ported over to Stars of the Pilgrim as well, but just because a balance experiment is successful, doesn't mean that it meshes well with george's vision for the character, story, or gameplay loops of Stars of the Pilgrim. For example, Sandbox Adventure (final name to be announced later) is all about player flexibility and choice: repeatable gameplay (missions, mining, etc), the ability to get crew for big (but not lore-limited) ships that aren't believably soloable (as is a requirement for the character of the pilgrim), and the ability to stick around and help (or harm) various factions across human space by following their storylines are all things that Sandbox Adventure aims to do, that conflict with Stars of the Pilgrim, and so those changes will remain in Sandbox adventure, but be available via libraries for other sandbox adventures to make use of.
  • The Human Space Vol2 library is visible on github, but has only some additional topology used by TSB and the eventually upcoming ranx expansion in it
  • There are currently a LOT of different extremely-early libraries for the sandbox adventure, and they will not be on github until it is determined how to best organize them across repositories. The large number of libraries is to make things more flexible for modders - do you want to include something from sandbox in Stars of the Pilgrim? That should be possible! Do you want to reuse some of the sandbox gameplay mechanics or a storyline in a different adventure entirely? That should also be possible!
  • The new adventure saw first-boot this week! Its FULL of placeholders (including rubber duck graphics), but it does load and can be played! Its first two player ships (Earthzone 100 and Hammerhead) are flyable. I did a playthrough up to the arena to test functionality in the Earthzone 100.
  • Also: yes, there will be at least 1 more base-game starting playership option. The leading candidate for inclusion however would require new assets. There will like-wise be more starting ship options added by both free and paid expansions.
  • Song convinced us to do the experiments with sandbox-oriented balancing from scratch in the sandbox adventure directly, though it does mean (At least for now) including a gigantic glob of overwrites with the adventure, until it can be properly reconciled with the basegame to avoid a huge maintenance headache in the future
  • Currently the rebalance will focus on updating New Beyond content, and then move to Ungoverned territories, Outer Realm, CC, Near Stars (EP), Frontier (TSB), in that order.
  • TSB development will focus on supporting Sandbox Adventure first and foremost. The SotP version of TSB (as a "content playground") will see development and benefits from the sandbox adventure version, but it is not the priority and will nolonger be the driving force behind TSB development.
  • Currently there is no damageAdj-by-level curve in the new adventure. Things feel surprisingly normal, outside of a few level 5-6 kinetic capship weapons from TSB being viable phobos-killers, and the hycrotan flak cannon from TSB tending to shred small ships in general. This is largely because out-of-level damage types were very rarely encountered.
  • Various approaches are being experimented with to get rid of fireRateAdj on the NPC ships, while still having garbage-tier NPCs for even a player's level 1 stock starter ship hull to punch down on.
  • A different starting system (ie, not Eridani) is being considered, in order to guarantee enough options for a player to move beyond a level 1 hull and into a level 2 hull if they grind out the content in the whole system.
  • A new tutorial is being brainstormed
  • A number of rebalance concepts core to the sandbox adventure are scheduled to be pitched to george in a meeting tomorrow
  • Some frameworks for enhanced lore delivery are being experimented with. There is a prototype extension (that mostly doesnt work yet) we started work on while very sleepy last night that - once completed - will enable records of lore roms that the player has read, rather than forcing the player to carry them around. Similarly, ideas are being brainstormed for digital credentials (as an alternative to needing ID roms that you might lose) for the player.
  • Sandbox adventure will contain a number of new factions as well (at least once the sandbox rebalance is done for the relevant region of human space in which they reside), some of which will also show up in Stars of the Pilgrim at some point. 3 factions were originally designed as part of an upcoming tutorial, and 1 faction was originally designed for the ranx expansion.
A formal announcement of the sandbox adventure will be made once the code and repo situation is sorted out which might still be a few weeks, and the first playable pre-alpha (if you aren't willing to download the repos from github) will be available probably once the new beyond rebalance is done.

I had no idea this was still a going thing! Just checked in and I'm happy to see it.

The github repo at /kronosaur/Transcendence is very out of date though, it's still on 1.5, is there a new repo somewhere where things are being developed?
