This might be a dumb idea, but it would be nice to have a bombsight for howitzers and cannons. My idea is to place a red dot about six light seconds from the players hull. When you need an accurate snapshot with a howitzer you just line up the dot and fire.
Doesn't sound very useful to be honest; anything worth sniping is going to be offscreen and then you might as well just bombard (I've got all the howitzers modded to be just a little inaccurate to facilitate a good barrage).
I'd prefer a line on your LRS indicating the path of the round you have chosen and taking into account your acceleration, possibly combined with a lead indicator for your selected target. That might come in handy.

I wouldn't mind just a little laser trace type thingy. That would be useful for taking out slave camps; match the red line with the red dot, and fire away. As it is I use a mining laser or something to make sure I'm lined up.
X-ray laser! Pew, pew pew!

I believe that if you can turn it off then the more information you can acces at a glance they better off you are. I'd be in favor of an information overload HUD that basically fills the screen with data (provided you can turn it off, preferably stepping down levels of complexity). Things like plotting the trajectory (or the possible trajectories) of all objects on screen and showing armor segments and the like help could conceivably help a lot in complex maneuvers.
This would be seriously cool, but not unless we can actually preform complex maneuvers. Right now there isn't much skill involved in piloting- the main factors that decide how well you play are your knowledge of equipment, and your ability to aim. I'm not suer what could be done, but I'd like to see a emphasis on actual piloting ability. The idea of adding more and more roms, that could be turned off individually, to your HUD is just cool, but we'd actually need a use for the information they supply.OddBob wrote:I believe that if you can turn it off then the more information you can acces at a glance they better off you are. No no no! You're doing it wrong!the main factors that decide how well you play are your knowledge of equipment, and your ability to aim.

There are all SORTS of fun manuevers and dodges and jinks and turns that you can use, and all sorts of tactics. Especially if you don't use the freighter, which moves like a crippled butterfly.
Having A: trajectories of all straight fire weapons with time indexes or some sort of color code as to when they'll reach what point. B: Cones of manuever for your ship, enemy ships, and tracking weapons, which show where they can reach in a given amount of time. C: Targeting pips divided into armor segments on enemy ships, showing damage and shields. D: Fire warning zones for where a ship or station can fire...
That would be so awesome. Being able to select ONLY possible manuever and fire zones for a targeted ship, or for ships of the type you have targeted, or whatever combination you like, would be even better. I would love to see this.
But it will be a while, if ever.
